As a contractor who works in this area quite a bit this process and the requirements are more times than not more elaborate and expensive than they really need to be. I'd like to see things loosened up a little so the homeowner doesn't feel strong armed into writing a blank check to cover these costs.

Takoma Park is great for many reasons including the protection of trees. At the same time flexibility is necessary to balance the needs for both a vibrant tree canopy that makes the city attractive and for a balance to allow for sensible growth and change that comes for a wonderful city such as ours.

In 2013, arborist required a complicated plan to protect a tree we had planted in our yard. The expense and alteration of the plan our architect had created was a big piece of why we threw in the towel on the project. This, after we had spent a LOT of money and time in the planning phase.

Current position is Urban Forest Manager. City Arborist is outdated. The fees associated with Tree Protection in the City are exorbitant.

Someone, unbelievably, the tree situation has gotten worse. It seems meant to protect bureaucracy, not trees. Simplify this, please.
