Tim was the absolute best! This is a NO BRAINER!

I had the privilege of playing football at Mira Costa from 1994 through 1997, a stretch that included two CIF Championship seasons. In 1997, I was honored to be named CIF Player of the Year. I also ran track my senior year and competed in the Ocean League Championships. My experience at Mira Costa, and the support I received from people like Tim Cooper, helped me earn a full scholarship to the University of Colorado Boulder, where I went on to start at quarterback, compete in two Big XII Championships (winning one), and play in both the Fiesta Bowl and Alamo Bowl. Through all of that, Tim Cooper was there—every step of the way. I sustained multiple serious injuries during my time at Costa: a broken leg, a broken ankle, a dislocated shoulder—injuries that could have easily derailed my future. Tim helped me through every one. He was always available—coming in early, staying late, working with athletes during summers and off hours—because he genuinely cared about our success and well-being. He didn’t just treat injuries; he helped rebuild confidence and gave us the strength to keep going. But Tim’s role went far beyond physical rehab. He was part trainer, part mentor, and part counselor. For many of us, he was the one constant we could count on. When you were on his table, you weren’t just getting treatment—you were being heard, understood, and supported. He helped athletes manage pain, yes, but also the pressure, fear, and emotional toll of high school athletics. In truth, Tim was like a psychiatrist for half the student-athletes on campus. Even after I graduated, Tim remained a huge part of my life. While I was playing at El Camino College, my teammates and I would come back to campus just to see him and catch up—often on a weekly basis. Tim Cooper is a hero in my family! My son Derek Vazquez playing football for Costa. It was at an away game and my son caught the ball and another player speared him. He came out of the game and sat on the bench, one of the coaches asked if he was ready to go in and he shook his head no, the other school didn’t have no one to check him out so when we got back to costa Tim looked at him and told me certain things to look out for, it could be his spleen so I took him to the hospital and they put him in intensive care for nine days with yes a ruptured spleen! And of course Tim came to see him in the hospital. So yes I sign the petition, TIM COOPER for sure!

Tim was an amazing man who loved the Costa family! I was blessed to spend time with him as a volleyball player and basketball player and after I graduated!

Tim was such a great human with the kindest heart and the biggest smile! He nursed me back to health each time I went down during our playoff run to eventually become the 1989 girls volleyball National Champions! I’ll never forget the tears in his eyes after we won the last point! He was a huge part of our team and he will forever be a Mustang!

This is well deserved

This probably should have been done as part of the dedication when the new gymnasium was first opened. Tim Cooper was part of the excellence of Costa athletics for many many years. In the subject of athletics and training just the mention of the name “Tim”, athletes all around the South Bay, not just Costa, knew exactly who you were talking about. There was only one Tim Cooper. I was around Tim all the years my son and daughter played volleyball at Costa and he watched over them as if they were his and I really appreciated that. I’m sure I am not the only Costa parent or ex-Costa athlete that feels this way and the designation of the training room in his memory is very appropriate

Two generations of my family were supported by Tim Cooper. There’s no better person to be honored. He was an amazing asset and friends to the athletic community at Costa.

Tim was a great trainer and friend. Helped keep us, the volleyball team healthy at my time at Costa 1992-1996. We won the national championship in 1996. He was a special person.

I knew Tim and played softball with him at Dorsey Field. He set the standard for excellence in training and caring for Mira Costa students and young athletes.

He gave every day and supported every sport with 100,000% Mustang Pride!

The physical and emotional development and support Tim Cooper provided my sons cannot be measured. An incredible man who is deeply missed. I strongly support naming the training room after him. His positive impact on hundreds of student athletes deserves that honor. Thank you for your effort in making this happen.
