Tighter regulations for Kentucky commercial fishing

We need our trophy cats

I think the trophy cats should be preserved for future generations. Tennessee and Alabama are fine examples of what regulation can do. Without the tighter regulations, the trophy cats will decline to nothing. Then, fisherman including the residents, will go to other states and spend their money somewhere else besides in Kentucky.

There's got to b a law/regulation on the commercial guys to abide by ,, the paylakes owner needs to have s log book of what goes in to their lakes , I wish that all big fish transported from one body of water to another would b not allowed ,, there's some pay lakes that have been putting big head carp into their lakes not even knowing what the r ,, referring to the ad Buffalo ,, need to have any fish over 30 " to b released back in to their home waters ,, the river will b overpopulated with small catfish cause all the mature breeding fish will b all gone ,, I'm s avid Ohio River angler ,, lol it's either I've gotten worse of catching of seeing/catching mature fish or there's just not as many in the river as it use to b ,, there's about a 75 mile stretch of river I fish , and at certain times of year , there's gill nets set every where , I counted 6 in a 1/2 -3/4 mile stretch of river with some that's on both sides of river

It's a travesty seeing the commercial guys posting 1000's of pounds of trophy catfish to be sold every week to for profit paylakes. This cannot be sustained. They should be enforced by the same regulations as the recreational angler. 1 fish over. If not, then i propose banning the transport of fish from the river to private lakes

please stop the removal of these old fish from the Ohio River. Our Catfishing is taking a major blow.

There is no other species of fish under as much fishing pressure as the 3 major catfish species. States need to wake up and make the catfish a sport fish. It is ridiculous that commercial fisherman are able to harvest them to sell live to pay lakes. Not to mention they are harvested by anglers and commercial guys for food. The Ohio River could be one of the premier fisheries again with proper regs.

Stop wiping out our river dish!

If u don't put smaller limits on comerical fishing there won't be any fish left to catch. In return less fishing licsenses sold so less income for the state.

There are to many loop holes in the regs as is, the paylakes are still overstocking the same as always an these regs have not slowed the commercial fisherman at all. Stricter regs an enforcement of the regs are crucial.

Please save the rivers and outlaw paylakes!!!

We need to stop the proliferation of trophy catfish to supply paylakes. These trophy catfish are the apex predators of feshwater. The only known natural predator for carp invasion and they also eat mussels. In most cases just a few commercial fisherman are at the helm of this and yes they have literally outfished portions of large rivers to supply payakes with trophy catfish 20 to 50 yrs old doomed to inevitable death. You also have the issue of live wild caught fish carrying an invasive species to upset or invade other bodies of water. These catfish purge or just gorge themselves on mussels and small carp to just name a couple. You have the economic impact of like a fishing tournament for example. They do not hold big name tournaments on bodys of water that don't hold enough fish. Last but not least. What if my daughter wants to catch a trophy cat? There are literally hundreds of species of fish and obviously things other than fish that have been decimated to extinction from overharvest that we can draw examples from. You have protections in place for bass, crappie, bluegill, muskie, pike, salmon, etc, etc, etc. It is time to stop the nonsense. The data has been compiled by professionals. Stop the commercial fishing of trophy catfish. Stop the paylakes from stocking trophy catfish. They can stock from local fisheries. If they want trophy catfish they can spend yrs raising them. If they want large fish they are welcome to the carp.

This should be illegal. They should have to raise their own fish for their lakes. Please stop them from destroying the sport I love.

We need Tighter regulations . The commercial fishermen are not abiding by the ones in place now. On top of this we need to push the DNR to patrol the rivers more often.
