Those Opposing Nolan Espinda

If Nolan wants to prove that Sonobe Hong, Cummings, and Maesaka Hirata are true leaders, start by ordering Sonobe Hong and Maesaka Hirata into their appropriate divisional uniform. Order them to attend mandatory inservice training with their division personnel. They should be receiving training so they can make educated decisions on matters in the field. If they’re not the ones making those decisions due to the lack of their own experience, they should be taking some serious salary cuts. Walk around in uniform and prove you can manage your division. Stop galavanting around in civilian attire and stop dodging real decisions. If you don’t want to follow these rules, you should leave.

Watched the news tonight and the messaging and maneuvering of his administration seems an awful lot like witness intimidation which is against the law. Why would this administration use phrases like “an outsider might come in”? Why would fresh leadership scare these individuals? That answer is obvious, they’re going to get caught and exposed for their incompetence. There must be slot of skeletons buried under Nolan for this much fear and intimidation to be used. Come on legislature, do the right thing and send this poor leader packing.

Totally corrupted. Please don't reappoint him. Kcf had a suicide cause an inmate slashed 2 of his wrists. He bled to death but Noland protected T/A WARDEN Wanda Craig and lied and classified it as a cardiac arrest. Also get rid of Shelly Nobriga, Shari Kimoto ,Patric Decosta(crco) and Marty(tsd) and all the other incompetent bullies. Noland Espinda always protects t/a Wanda Craig. Why isn't she used as an example being she has a criminal record for stealing and lying??? Isn't that bringing the department in disreput???? Too much shenanigans

It saddens me to witness the corruption that runs rampant in Public Safety since Mr. Espinda’s Appointment. In my 25 years of service, this is the worst Administration yet. Mr. Espinda blatantly abuses his authority as evident by his violation of Ethics and Civil Service Laws. I pray that our Senators truly represent our best interests by voting NO to Mr. Espinda’s confirmation.

Espinda is a queef. Renee is a bigger queef. Get rid of them both. Also need a new Sheriff. Someone who actually knows how to be a cop, make arrests, write reports, etc.

Just not qualified to lead such an important department. Nominate some one who can do the job. He's had already enough time to prove he's failure.

DO NOT CONFIRM THE REAPPOINTMENT OF NOLAN ESPINDA!! He placed people in managing position to use to his advantage, not for the department. His whole "entourage " needs to reevaluated and watched closely as they use their so called authority to bully their division/programs. Shelly Harrington is one of them. How can someone who's in the Intake Services Administrator position, have her hands in multiple offices and responsibilities? Shes given too much authority in this department and should only focus on her administrator position. Many decisions that he has made wasn't for the betterment of the department. It was more like to control the workers for his benefit to look good, but with the strict orders he delegated, it back fires and lands in the news. Morale in the department has drastically decreased. Why do you think the sick calls at the prisons haven't improved? Morale! There is none! He made coming to work a misery, especially with who's been promoted into many of the supervising positions. Change is needed! We need people with integrity, fairness and with Godly character to lead PSD to become great again.

I strongly oppose the reappointment of Nolan Espinda. We need someone with strong leadership, vision, be a positive influence on staff, and a clear plan to get the Department where it should/needs to be. Not lies, coverups and favors.

I am in strong opposition to the reconfirmation of Nolan Espinda. As I have stated before and will continue to do so this department has been worse off since his start in office. Everyone that has commented here and are in support of Espinda are pretty much higher ups in the department. I’m at the bottom and have no problem expressing how I feel about his leadership. Has anyone seen the letter written by MCCC staff?? It is attached to the maui newspaper as a pdf. Read that because that is the truth from the “workers” and not deputy directors and so on. I have heard from many employees about how dissatisfied they are with Espinda’s leadership....but they are afraid to speak due to the obvious.....retaliation!!!! Nolan Espinda is not the right leader for this department. As stated Albert Cummings has never went through an academy which is required to become a deputy sheriff. I was under his supervision as an investigator with the sheriffs division. When it came to light (media) that there were certain deputies that have law enforcement powers that had not been properly trained it was ordered that those individuals attend a month long academy. I sat in the office and saw Albert Cummings go to the “mandatory “ academy class and come back at lunch time. He barely attended the academy and received a certificate. This is who is leading a law enforcement division? Has he or Renee ever made an arrest and written a report? As an investigator I wrote many reports but was told that Renee had to look them over before being submitted. There needs to be change in the department and that starts at the top with Nolan Espinda.

This entire administration has been a drain on taxpayers not to mention the employees morale. How many lawsuits have been paid out because of the management of Espinda, Sonobe Hong, Maesaka Hirata, and Cummings. Let’s get it right for once and bring in leadership that inspires excellence.

I downright oppose the confirmation of Nolan Espinda. He and his appointees are corrupt & incompetent. Friends & Family is Nolan Espinda’s motto—and I do not approve. I believe in the State law on the merit principle. MPSGA—Make Public Safety Great Again! CHANGE please.
