Thornell Road Pedestrian Safety

Joe, When its time to make your pitch you should point out the added revenue the businesses in Bushnells Basin would receive from people being able to walk to them. More money spent at the businesses in Bushnell’s Basin, the more tax dollars the town of Perinton would receive. Over the years the sidewalk could pay for itself. If you have to drive to a restaurant you might drive past the Basin to Victor since it’s just a couple minutes further, but if you could walk you wouldn’t go any further than the Basin. When its nice outside you could take the kids to Abbots for ice cream but since its too dangerous to walk down Thornell, you just give the kids popsicles from the freezer. More money spent at the businesses in Bushnell’s Basin, the more tax dollars the town of Perinton would receive.

As a runner, I would love to have safer access to the Erie Canal towpath. With a sidewalk, my family would start biking there, too.

I agree,it would be great if we had a wider sidewalk ,maybe even a guardrail between the sidewalk and Thornell

Thank you Joe for your efforts so far. I run through the area and surrounding neighborhoods and have always avoided that stretch of road because of the hazards pedestrians face with traffic.

I live in a neighborhood by Thornell Road - and my older children would value the ability to walk or bike to friends houses or the basin - but both access directions - via Thornell or through the park on Park road to 96 do not have safe passage for pedestrians or young cyclists - please consider addressing this issue.

It's long been a concern as many older children and teens as well as adults have to walk Thornell to get to the Basin. Bushnells basin is growing and has many restaurants as well that appeal to the young who don't drive

I would like to improve the trail that is behind Hitching Post Plaza. If there was signage and it was usable by bikes and walkers, it would solve the Thornell Road problem and provide a scenic route to the basin. A crossing sign could be added to get across Thornell to connect the side streets to the trail. And while we are at it, how about a bike trail along the Auburn RR next to East Street with a bridge over the canal to get to the canal trail. The RR bridge abutments are already there.

I moved off of Thornell Rd because of this, but still run there- it needs a sidewalk!!

Yes! Grew up on Thornell just on the other side of irondequoit creek, and my parents still live there. It is SO dangerous walking around that corner. A sidewalk is absolutely needed!!!!

county highway, both Perinton and Pittsford need to sign on. very needed. also speed limit control.

Yes we need this!!! I saw all the time that I wish I could walk down thornell without taking my life in my hands.

I am a parent who lives in the same neighborhood and I do not feel comfortable with my kids biking on Thornell, which means we have to drive our bicycles down to the canal. This seems rather silly, not to mention wasteful. Let's get a sidewalk built!

This definitely should be seriously improved for pedestrians and cyclists.

I run from my home on great oak lane to the basin almost daily. I also run the curve noted in the original submission, as well as the curve between my neighborhood and east st and have had some close calls with cars on the narrow birm. I would love to see a sidewalk here!

Without a sidewalk that stretch of Thornell Rd is totally unsafe for walking or biking. Traffic and speeds driven on Thornell Rd have increased dramically over the past year. At times it's even risky to enter Thornell Rd from Oak Leaf driving a car.

That road is definitely in need for a sidewalk.
