Class of ‘80. The legacy of every alum, teacher, administrator and the school’s namesake is to grow in their understanding and knowledge of our nation’s history (good and bad). The lessons I learned at TJHS laid the foundation of who I am today and that includes the continuous reevaluation of the context of history and the present. I hope as the powers that be look at this issue, they use the same common sense Thomas Jefferson epitomizes and that was/is taught to generations of students that have attended this GREAT institution.

Class of 1971. I would consider a duality name. Example Thomas Jefferson Russell Wilson Memorial High School.

If schools can only be named after perfect people, we have some other problems in Federal Way: (1) Mark Twain Elementary School is named after a great American writer who wrote and said racist things before he got older and wiser. (2) Lakota Middle School is named after ruthless Native American warriors who took over other tribes' land in South Dakota in the 1720s--before having to defend themselves against the US Army in the 1800s.

Thank you for starting this Petition. The lack of American History being taught in our FWPS is evident. The Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson is renowned and respected all over the world. America is not perfect; she is founded by courageous patriotic humans. We all strive to form A More Perfect Union. Can we all agree on building up rather than destroying? We stand on the shoulders of giants, as we use our God given creativity to improve our country. Some would cry for destruction, most will call for freedom and faith in each other. We are all Americans. We are the people who ended slavery.

Class of 1977. No man or woman is perfect. Thomas Jefferson's words ("all men are created equal", for example) have inspired anti-racism campaigns around the world. We should learn from his words and actions (good and bad)--rather than forgetting them.

cancel culture is a movement, not an actual official body that makes decisions for others. These decisions should be left to the people!
