THE UNIVERSITY EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT TEAM HAS LET YOU DOWN:
Each of you have paid for the course of your choice, to happen at the campus you chose, and with the staffing and facilities you were promised, but the University Executive Management Team have let you down.
The Office for Students, who exist to protect you and your right to education, approve the ‘Student Protection Plan’, that forms part of the contract between you and the University, which you will have signed when you accepted your place at Essex.
Now, the University are in breach of that contract, as below:
- By closing a campus and thereby forcing many students to withdraw.
- By not reacting appropriately to foreseeable drops in international student numbers, thereby pushing the University further into debt.
- By slashing staff numbers in Colchester and Southend, resulting in less contact time, less access to essential resources and courses being cancelled.
- By transferring students from mirrored courses in Southend and thereby doubling cohort sizes in Colchester, resulting in less essential access time to vital equipment, particularly for those in nursing and dentistry.
- By the Vice Chancellor telling students handing out leaflets which question the University leadership that they must stop and leave the campus, which is a breach of free speech, protected by Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
If you believe that by taking the actions above the University Executive Management Team have violated the student contract, sign the petition to the Office for Students and confirm your belief that those responsible should be held to account for their actions.

Total incompetence from the top down. We pay way too much money to be treated like an inconvenience.
Hardly get any contact hours as it is. Doubling the class sizes is basically just a scam at this point.
The actions of the university management amount to educational vandalism and have to be reversed
SHAMBLES. Where is all our tuition money actually going?
Ridiculous to think they can just move everyone to Colchester and pretend nothing changed. Southend had a real community feel and now its just gone.
Shocking miss use of power by the university.
