I come from Manitoba, in Canada. I was shocked to find that here you can be on the road with an uninsured vehicle. It only makes sense that insurance and vehicle registrations is linked, with TPI the minimum compulsory insurance. Here too it should be illegal for a driver to be on the road in a vehicle that isn't both registered and insured.

We need this to happen sooner than later. I know the UK have done this for years, why is New Zealand so far behind?

I'm presently living in the UK but frequently visit New Zealand and will probably return permanently in the long term. The UK has compulsory third party. I cannot understand why NZ does not. There's no logic. It is part of the responsibility of car ownership. Of course in the UK, it also covers damage to people which comes under ACC in NZ, but that is no excuse for not having it.

TPI is essential. It may reduce premiums for fully insured cars/drivers.

Should have been made compulsory years ago

Finally getting my car fixed after making a police accident report. Police followed up and instructed the other driver to phone my insurance company to agree to pay costs.
YAY!

This makes a lot of sense as an easy way to ensure (to a great extent) that all drivers have insurance.

Third party insurance should be factored into our car registration. That way it would become compulsory.

I agree that there should be a compulsory third part insurance for all vehicle owners driving in NZ

A worthy cause! I had my car written off by an uninsured driver many years ago. The other driver was speeding and admitted it was his fault.

If you can't insure your car, you shouldn't have one or drive one! I'm sick and tired to pay for other peoples stupidity

About time if they can't pay for their insurance, they shouldn't drive a vehicle, simple as.

I would vote for any party with the commonsense to make this law. Those with insurance are subsidising those idiots without and the government are bigger idiots for allowing this to continue.
