The Verve Academy of Skating is located in Hamilton, Ontario. The school has applied to Skate Canada for sanctioning. Without being sanctioned the children of the Verve Canada are unable to compete in Skate Canada events which essentially means they can't compete. The Verve's application was objected to by two existing skating clubs.

Several letters were sent to both Skate Canada's and Skate Canada's Western Ontario Board requesting that all information and voting records related to this matter be disclosed. The request to review this information was denied by both and was characterized as ill-timed and inappropriate. Furthermore by requesting this information that parent's were accused of creating a "make work" project. Skate Canada is the National Governing Body for Figure Skating receiving significant government funding. It is imperative that this organization be transparent in its decision making and communication with the Canadian public. By signing this petition you are supporting that the following issues be immediately addressed by Sport Canada and Skate Canada: 1. Skate Canada events should be eligible to all Canadian children and not require them to be a member of a sanctioned club. 2. Skate Canada must make available all information and records relating to application requests available for review. 3. That all negative impact statements be accompanied by a current market study. 4. That the Verve Academy of Skating be immediately granted sanctioning by Skate Canada.

I have been spending so much time digging through these obscure policy manuals and honestly the lack of transparency is even worse than I imagined. It is wild how they just dismiss parents as a nuisance when we are just trying to get our kids onto the ice. I am still waiting on a real response from the board but I will keep pushing until someone finally explains why they think this secrecy is acceptable.

This is so unfair for the kids. They just want to skate and compete like everyone else. Let them choose where they train.

Ridiculous that they need special permission to just exist. Let Verve skate!

Why is it so hard for them to be transparent? Skate Canada needs to be held accountable for this nonsense.

My daughter loves her coach and we should have the right to pick where she develops her skills. Total monopoly.
