Save The Mill in Bristol!
Whereas, The Mill is Bristol’s oldest building (1767) and was restored and brought back to life through the investment and hardwork of the family business, “The Mill Ice Cream Café & Fudge Factory”. Whereas, the business has created an economic and cultural magnet in Bristol, hosting regular music events for hundreds of people, creating local jobs and generating nearly $50,000 annually in staff wages; Whereas, the business has improved Bristol's reputation by promoting Bristol as a destination, with its website containing Bristol’s name www.TheMillBristol.com, The Mill’s photo on the front page of NH Made’s catalogue, and a company vision for a vibrant and prosperous town; Whereas, the business has created a reputation in New England for gourmet fudge, and is building a national presence with a professional ecommerce website that will further increase the business’s benefit to Bristol’s economy in the future; Whereas, the Town of Bristol held a design Charrette to improve the downtown area; Whereas, the business is in serious risk of closing due to being evacuated from its building on February 13, 2009 and the owner’s inability to pay the extra expenses of maintaining both The Mill and the temporary location; Whereas, the Town of Bristol has neglected to protect public safety by ignoring the dangerous condition of the Mica building since it was declared unsafe nine years ago; Whereas, the owner of the mica building (while ultimately responsible for this problem) apparently has no money to assist The Mill; WE THE UNDERSIGNED REQUEST THAT THE TOWN OF BRISTOL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SITUATION AND ASSIST THE BUSINESS WITH THE EXTRAORDINARY EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH THE EVACUATION UNTIL THE BUSINESS CAN SAFELY RETURN TO THE MILL: [This petition was printed and hand delivered to the Bristol Selectmen on March 26th, 2009. Please see our blog for latest updates: http://themillfudgefactory.blogspot.com/. However after you sign our petition it might look like we are.
