THIS IS A PETITION TO ISLINGTON COUNCIL WHO WANT TO REMOVE DENTON CONNELLS MEMORIAL PLAQUE ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH Islington Council have served notice to Mandy Connell (wife of Denton 'The Bear' Connell) of their intention to remove a plaque on Bear Roundabout outside the Emirates Stadium. Mrs Connell is in total shock at this action as * The Plaque was laid with the full agreement of the local council as a compromise, when Mrs Connell agreed to remove the floral tributes and pictures placed on the roundabout by numerous family and friends, following Denton's untimely death in a motor accident on 4th October 2007. * The council state their reasoning in doing so, is that they have received complaints from residents regarding the plaque. This seems ludicrous, as the plaque lays flat on the roundabout and is only visible to the eye if you are standing immediately on the roundabout. * Martin Holland (Head of Highway Services, Islington Council) has stated in correspondence with Mrs Connell that she has kept the memorial to a minimum. The timing of this notification is extremely insensitive and the action is completely unecassary as well as disrespectful. Denton Connell's funeral in October was attended by nearly six thousand people including numerous celebrities including Ian Wright, Janet Street-Porter, David Walliams, Pet Shop Boys and many more. As well as signing this petition, please e-mail [email protected] asking for this not to happen. Please forward this link you all Arsenal fans to build support for this cause. This story is covered in this weeks islington gazette on page 4, you can see this on their web page.

The council need to get a grip and leave it alone. Denton was a proper legend around here and everyone knows it.

DISGUSTING behavior from the council. Bear was a true gent and part of the local furniture. Leave it be.

Ridiculous waste of time from the council. It clearly means a lot to his family and friends. Leave the memorial alone.
