This petition is to urge the Office of the Dean of Students at the University of Alberta to reconsider the decision vetoing the formation of the University of Alberta Brewing Association.
This student group would offer learning opportunities in chemical engineering, process and quality control, as well as data collection and analysis, through a hands-on technical project micro brewing batches of beer.
We believe the positive impacts to the campus and the University community far outweigh any potential risks which could arise. We believe that prior to declining a group's right to exist, the University should act in a democratic manner and engage in consultation with the student body.
We encourage the Office of the Dean of Students respond to our earlier communications, and to clarify their concerns regarding the student group.

I really did not think this would take off like it has when I first drafted the argument on my laptop at two in the morning. People are actually talking about the science of fermentation and the lack of student consultation which is honestly just incredible to see. It feels like the administration is finally going to have to stop hiding behind their veto and actually talk to us.

seriously why are they blocking this? its just brewing. let the club happen already.
Beer brewing is more than just making beer and getting drunk. There are many aspects to it. Also, there's a lot of money in it (i.e., beer industry). I hope the U of A administration realises that.
i do not agree with what the campus has decided, obviously everyone involved would need to be an adult, so what is the issue?
Promoting a craft form of beer creation should have just as much a right on campus as groups organizing trips to the bar
I, a student of UBCO, would like to personally support this movement for the advancement of chemical engineering opportunities and technical experience gained from the association at U of A. I trust the execs to take good control of the potential risks and the benefits can indeed outweigh risks.
I would love some Golden green brews!

Science is science. Whether its in a lab or a brewery it teaches the same principles. The university needs to get over themselves and let students learn.
