It's always good to know our history but to have constant painful reminders that are not only painful but disrespectful to an ENTIRE race should be removed. There are other ways to give people a dignified history lesson.

Slaves are no longer a sale item. People should not have to live and see the negative symbol that was painful for black families and people so many years ago. Yes it’s historic, however, it horrific for black people.

This "monument" is not just an eyesore. It is a heart sore. It pulls at your heart because you have to imagine what was going through the hearts of the families especially the children as they were separated never to be reunited again. It is a mind sore. It symbolizes to me that oppression of blacks is very much alive. (We are free, but not free.) It plays with the mind in that it is a place that's flaunted and treated as gold while I struggle to find its value. Christmas lights are placed on it to celebrate a Christian holiday, yet waves no flag. How ironic? During December, commentators set up underneath it to announce parade entries or the Busting on Broad participants. In my mind they equate to the auctioneers who were fishing for the highest bidder of my ancestors. Yes, this structure symbolizes a dark time in the history of America. For whites it should make you cringe too because it is a reminder that you came from a lineage of people who committed such vial inhumane acts on other humans. This structure has long been indicative of the racial divide in this city, county, state, and country. It is time for it to be moved and placed in a museum with other artifacts of the past.

It’s long over due, the slave market served as a illegal trading place for goods & African Americans, an embarrassment,shameful, painful sight to drive by And still see it standing on the middle of Louisville GA. Why keep something up that has so much pain attached to it. Come on we know the ugly truth behind slaves been sold at this place and it ripped family’s apart sold off fathers and mothers from their children, husbands and wife’s were separated from each other. The suffering and agony that African American people endured from being sold under The Save Market. Tear it down are move it somewhere that you don’t have to be forced to look at when you drive through Louisville GA.
