Whereas the Stanley Cup was donated by the Governor General of Canada, the Lord Stanley of Preston, to the people of Canada, to be presented to the top amateur hockey team in Canada, we the undersigned assert that the people of Canada, as represented by His Excellency the Governor General of Canada, are the rightful owners of the Stanley Cup. Further, we demand that, in the event a National Hockey League champion is not determined during the 2012-2013 season, the trustees of the Stanley Cup be directed by His Excellency to award the Stanley Cup to a team of His Excellency's choosing, according to the principles set out by the Lord Stanley of Preston. Further, we demand that, in the future, the Stanley Cup be presented by the Governor General of Canada, and not by the commissioner of the National Hockey League.
