As an Indigenous woman, I tell you Brooke that this is a slur and you are appropriating Indigenous designs and artwork - which is illegal. Listen to Indigenous people. You don't get to argue with us on what is or isn't offensive to us when you've never been Indigenous or lived as an Indigenous woman for one second. You've never been assaulted or harrassed, sometimes with the slur used against you. You have no right to feel so defensive - it is not your word to use. Call everyone against this "liberal bullies" all you want. Just know you are fighting for your right to be racist and oppressive.

She is not only using a derogatory name for her business, but is also in violation of the Indian Arts & Crafts Act. She's posing as an artist that sells Native/American Indian jewelry while she, herself, is not Native/American Indian. Indigenous North Americans have been educating and re-educating non-natives on the use of ethnographic imagery for over 100 years. I hope she takes the time to listen to what our collective voices are saying by signing this petition to educate herself, understand why it is a derogatory term, why it's wrong she is selling Native jewelry and isn't Native, and that we collectively would like to see a name change.

The name of this company, the logo, and most importantly the disrespectful response to its critics are unacceptable. Shame!

The name you chose for your business is clearly an offensive sexual and racial slur. How would you feel if there was a store called Honkie Town or White Cracker or Texas Honkie or C*nt Cracker or any other slur against your ethnicity or gender?

This kind of language can be very hurtful to communities who have been nothing but hurt since the 1400s. I encourage you to open your heart to compassion and change the name.

This word does not belong to you to use, nor does it mean you get to decide what it means to to the people it belongs to. Change the name from this offense term to something else and some oppression Indigenous peoples in the process by silencing the harm and pain they have been through for centuries.

At 57 years old, I can still feel the stinging shame of being called, “a dirty squaw.” When my torment became apparent it was used to belittle me until my older brother taught me to punch and kick at age 7- the only problem was I spent a great deal of time in the Principal’s office.

This is an horrendous, racist term. How is it possible that it is still okay to publically refer to native women in such demeaning ways?
