Cape Breton has a proud Gaelic heritage. I don't believe that the Royal prefix is necessary or appropriate.

This is not the right fit for "Royal" designation.

The Gaelic College is a marvelous institution. I would like to suggest that a "Royal" gesture be presented yearly, in the form of scholarships, as a strong sign of support from the Queen and the government. To me this is would be a truly grand gesture.

I think we should be aware of and have respect for people and their history. I respectfully request the board to remove the Royal designation.

This should have been discussed with the local Gaelic community and members of the gaelic college foundation in advance. The designation is completely inappropriate given the history of Anglo-supremecists in Canada working to exterminate the Gaelic language (such as by punishing and shaming children for speaking Gaelic in their own schools).

While no doubt the intention, "Royal" in the name of a Gaelic institution insults the legacy of our ancestors who were dispossessed by the British Crown in the name of capitalist interests. Please honour our culture and remove the "royal"

I don't doubt that the Royal designation was sought with good intentions. However for me it is an unwanted distractrion, an insult, and a reminder of oppression.

It is ironic that as our ancestral homeland struggles toward independence that the college would even symbolically take such a step backwards.

I'd prefer the name of the College to stand as it is, without the 'Royal' designation

Names have particular power and significance in Cape Breton. The "Royal" designation is a reminder of a painful history of both deliberate and unintended efforts to eradicate the Gaelic language and its associated culture. To ensure that cultural maintenance and revitalization efforts can continue to build a healthy Nova Scotia Gaelic community, it is important that the "Royal" designation be dropped from the Gaelic College's name.

We are no longer a colony and therefore Royal is out of date

Remove the "Royal," please, and while you are at it, bring back the pipe band and highland dancing, as they were established in the very beginning.

It doesn't fit for many reasons.
