The Gaelic College, neither in the past nor now has had anything to do with the Royal Family. So.....please leave good enough alone!!

Denying the term "Royal" in this instance is not about refusing to bury old griefs and wounds or to befriend former enemies. It is about appropriate nomenclature and tradition as well as appropriate historical sensitivity. It is just as inappropriate to add the " royal" designation to the Gaelic College as it would be to refer to Grande Pre National Park ( which commemorates the expulsion of the Acadians in 1755 by the British) as the Royal Acadian Memorial in my view.

Our entire historical armamentarium has demonstrated the disdain the Royals have displayed throughout history for the Gaelic culture. This includes suppression through brute force, exile and expropriation. This stands in direct oppostion to every objective the College represents. The board must apologize and remove the title immediately. Its the least they can do for our ancestors who lay buried on the island, because as Scots, who we are is who we were.

This is disgraceful. The current royal family should have no ties into something that their predecsessors tried to distroy.

"Royal" should not be part of the college- why give the monarch any recognition? It has nothing to do with the queen.

We must not give honour to the word Royal since it was the British Royal Family that precipitated the genocide of the Gaelic language and the dispersal of its leaders and people. The language survived in North America thanks to ordinary Gael who worked hard to clear a new land to make a new home for his family. Let us find a fitting word that honours the ordinary men and women who risked passage across the Atlantic and then for nearly 200 years tried invain to preserve their ancient tongue without help from any government whether in Britian or Canada.

Time for this country to grow up, and rid ourselves of the Monarchy, we are NOT British~! This country will never amount to anything as long as a Foreigner remains as head of our Gov.

My understanding is that the British government went to great lengths to try to eradicate the Gaelic language and culture; therefore it seems inappropriate to me to have the symbolic stamp-of-approval of the British crown affixed to an institution which is seeking to reverse this.
