Recently, the Canadian national and provincial chiropractic associations have been posturing chiropractic as musculoskeletal (MSK) experts and ignoring the neurological affects. We find this change to be a profound and significant shift away from something that has defined our profession for nearly 120+ years. Whether a chiropractor is pain based or wellness based, the neurological affects of chiropractic are relevant. We do not support this recent approach of the professional associations and respectfully ask that they return to neuromusculoskeletal (NMSK) terminology in their future interactions with chiropractors, medical doctors, government officials and the public at large

Have used chiropractor care my whole life, and fully appreciate the neurological advantages of the treatments. I often seek chiropractic care instead of my gp. She is a specialist and is part of my health care Team.
The research that shows chiropractic treatments have a profound effect on the nervous system is overwhelming. Using chiropractic to treat musculoskeletal problems only is like using the most powerful computer to tell the time
There is already a very good profession that specializes in MSK complaints and disorders. It is called Physical Therapy. It is not in the public interest to duplicate another profession. Co-management is beneficial, imitation and competition is harmful.
The nerve system is the core of chiropractic practice. The latest research indicates that the adjustment affects the function of the frontal cortex in a positive way. To remove the neural component from chiropractic eviscerates the profession.
As a 20 year practicing chiropractor I feel like we would be cheating the general public and our patients by focusing only on MSK and not telling them about all the other benefits of a properly functionning nervous system on overall health and well-being.
Chiropractic Should always have neuro in it's focus.
The recent phenomenon within chiropractic by some organizations is proof of confusion within our profession. DD Palmer's 1910 book was entitled "The Science, Art and Philosophy of Chiropractic. Yet it is important to note that on every page is the term "The Chiropractor's Adjuster". In this world it is common for a good idea, a new idea; to be targeted by trolls who's intent would be to steal the position of the originator for spurious reasons. That chiropractic has been resisted both from within and from without is no secret. The AMA in the USA attempted to destroy chiropractic as a threat to the medical business of sickness treatment. To this day the damage done by disrespectful and largely ignorant physicians often promotes fear that unfortunately alienates the public from fully receiving and benefiting from all the chiropractic profession has to offer. More to the point of this petition is the fact of the rot from within. Many so-called chiropractic techniques have strayed from the principles that anchor our science and philosophy.. B.J. often spoke of the erosion of the profession he loved. The irony is that the timeless principles are viewed by too many in chiropractic and my alma mater - CMCC as 'limiting and unscientific'.! This is unacceptable to in this time of unprecedented scientific interest and outright fascination with the role of the human central nervous system in health

As a practicing chiropractor, I see daily the neurological effects of what I do with my patients. To take that aspect away from our profession turns us into glorified massage therapists, which we most definitely are not. Please continue to label us as neuromuscular specialists.
