I wish to bring to your attention concerning business practices by The Knot and WeddingWire, particularly as they pertain to their advertising packages, lead quality, and inconsistent policies impacting wedding venues.
Our venue, Kendall Point, located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, was one of the earliest advertisers on The Knot and WeddingWire. From the start, we committed wholeheartedly to their platforms, always choosing their highest advertising packages both online and in print. For over a decade, we invested heavily, with our ad placement consistently among the top-tier positions. Our representative, Cindy Elley, provided excellent customer service, and it was initially a positive experience.
However, each year, our advertising rates increased significantly. We learned that the pricing structure was not standardized; rather, it was adjusted based on perceived willingness to pay. This approach led to different pricing for similar services among venues, a practice that seemed subjective and, at times, arbitrary. Although we were assured that only 1-2 venues would occupy the “top tier” advertising slots, it became apparent that more were added if venues were willing to pay. This undermined our confidence, as the exclusivity we were promised was compromised.
Over time, the value we received also deteriorated. The platform began generating numerous low-quality or "scam" inquiries, many of which had no legitimate interest in booking our venue. Just to provide leads they promised. Despite no longer advertising with them since 2020, we continue to receive these fake leads, which cost time and resources to manage.
In 2020, during the period of the merger between The Knot and WeddingWire, our venue experienced what we believe was discriminatory treatment. Due to our venue’s name at the time, Kendall Plantation, and our choice of an antebellum architectural style, we were informed that our advertising could be jeopardized. Our venue was built with a co

False leads constantly. Prices increase every year without prior notice of the amount that will be charged. There is no advance communication to ask if you want to renew or not, they will just keep charging at a higher rate. No way to reach them immediately….always have to leave a message and wait days for a reply. If you contest their automated renewals, they will note your account so if you ever return to them they will ask you to pay back what they felt was due to them before they take you on as a client again. They promise first page placement for a certain package but there are so many people in the industry so first page placement doesn’t happen consistently.

I signed up for their services with the expectation that they would provide genuine business leads and services related to my wedding photography business. However, within the first week of using their platform, I quickly realized that the leads being sent to me were fake, and the services they promised were not delivered.
Due to this realization, I immediately ceased using WeddingWire’s platform, deleted my information from their website, and have not logged in or used their services since. The services they claimed to offer do not exist, and I believe this company has engaged in misleading practices. I have also discovered that other businesses have experienced similar fraudulent activity with WeddingWire, further confirming that I was scammed.

I signed a one year photographer listing contract in 9/2023 and populated my profile per all the TKWW best practices. I soon learned that the sales agent's promises (of a high demand for my quality/style of photography leading to multiple job bookings before Christmas) were grossly misleading. After a couple months of seemingly fake leads and only one certifiable lead, I expressed concern and requested my account be closed.
I was soon contacted by an account representative. I outlined the contradictions and abysmal results. He basically said that the sales agent had over-promised. I stopped payments after three months. We had further respectful correspondence where I outlined my grievances and addressed his supposed solutions, and then he dropped off -- no response to my last two emails.
Now a collection agency is reaching out for the remainder of the annual dues and threatening retaliation.

Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Deceptive Sales Practices and Failure to Provide Services by THE KNOT | WEDDING WIRE | WEDDING PRO
Good day,
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the highly misleading sales practices I experienced as a new venue owner, resulting in significant financial loss. I was persuaded into a contract costing over $4,000 per month, based on false claims and assurances. It quickly became apparent that the leads provided were fabricated. Most were non-responsive, and the few who did answer confirmed they had never inquired about my venue.
Out of hundreds of leads, only a small number responded, and those replies were nearly identical—cut-and-paste responses such as "Not a good fit" or "Found another venue." Over a four-month period, I did not receive a single legitimate booking. Additionally, I was sold a banner ad in a different market, which never appeared, and I received no leads from that region.
After the first month, I contacted my representative multiple times to cancel the service but received no response until I canceled the credit card being charged. Only then did I receive numerous calls from your team, including from different numbers, in an attempt to get through to me. When I finally spoke with a new representative—after dealing with several others—I was told I could not legally cancel the contract, despite the company failing to deliver on its obligations.
I firmly believe that your company did not fulfill its commitment to provide real, quality leads from genuine clients. I communicated my intent to cancel well before taking the step of halting payments. Unfortunately, I have now lost nearly $20,000 as a result of these deceptive practices.
I request a full investigation into this matter and a refund of the payments made.

In summary, my experience with Wedding Pro has been disheartening and costly. I was led to believe that signing a 12-month contract was the only option and was assured by a persuasive salesperson that this commitment would help me secure the two weddings per month I could handle. Despite my honesty about my capacity and the promise of dedicated support, I have only received two leads per month, which have primarily been price inquiries rather than genuine bookings. The advice given by their team proved ineffective, and their failure to follow up or address my concerns further exacerbates my frustration. The discounted rate I was offered, coupled with the high-pressure sales tactics, contributed to my hasty decision to sign up. Unfortunately, the service has not lived up to its promises, leaving me feeling misled and financially burdened.

My whole experience with TheKnot/Wedding Wire felt predatory. If I knew what I do now, I would never have "joined". I also felt forced, when I was on the fence, the rep I was talking to said they were going to talk to their boss to give me a special "deal". Not long after signing up, the person who signed me had stopped working there.

I have worked every lead they have sent me, and have gotten nothing out of it. $765 a month, no bookings. Absolute scam, I charged back two months and now they are going after me for it. They're going to have to send it to collections, I'm not paying them.

Our contract prices were set to go up 20% in one year. We negotiated it back down to a smaller percentage, but we've had to fight for it every time. Compared to other sites like Zola who charge reasonable rates with transparency in pricing, we find WeddingWire and The Knot to be taking advantage of small businesses in the weddings industry.
