The role of our strong and sturdy green capped friends can not be less emphasized and since we've been studying the role of trees since childhood, I shall not go about elaborating their benefit and role in the ecosystem of which we too are part.

With climatic conditions worsening and Nature losing its balance it is the need of the hour, for all corticate species to come together and restore that part of Nature which we are destroying for our technological development and progress.

The METRO project, while being a welcome initiative by the government, unfortunately also involves clearing the track-line of trunks and branches that hinder its path. The result? A hot, sunny road, devoid of all tree cover, right outside Seth GSMC & KEMH and that much less oxygen!

Being fully aware that it might be necessary to do so, I do sincerely request that a tree be planted for every major trunk / large branch cut. The site proposed for plantation: Seth GSMC & KEMH campus.

Any variety of large shady trees / fruit bearing trees would benefit, not only the thousands of patients but also the entire medical fraternity.

Updates

May 18, 2015

I have been walking the campus grounds and feeling the heat reflected off the concrete where our shade used to be. The administration has received our request but continues to stall while the construction noise grows louder every morning. I refuse to let them forget that the people recovering in our wards need trees more than they need another parking lane.

May 18, 2015

Watching this movement grow keeps me hopeful that our campus will soon be shaded by new life. It means everything to see so many of you fighting to protect the air we breathe at Seth GSMC and KEMH.

Trees have always been a part of KEM. For every tree cut, there should be a plant grown.
