The PearlieMae Group is pleased to announce The Gateway Federal Credit Union. Our assignment to inform, inspire and implement a sustainable economic opportunity to an underserved market of conventional lenders. These underserved groups consist of minorities, at-risk individuals, low-to-moderate income families, teachers in urban school districts, nurses, historically black college alumni and their families. In strategic partnership with The Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union, together, we will provide responsible financial services and promote fair financial practices.
Due to the lack of value-based financial serviced institutions, predatory lenders and high-fee check cashers often thrive in underserved communities. Gateway’s mission is to locate our credit union branches to these communities and extend our services through mobile technology and partnerships with groups in their local area. In addition to this, we will serve neglected neighborhoods by financing and promoting economic development projects in historical districts, restore historic buildings and promote investments to a vacant property in areas of blight.
We plan to create and protect ownership and economic opportunity for this target market. This will be accomplished by providing value-based financial services by lending to at-risk individuals, small businesses, and nonprofits across Missouri.
The Gateway Federal Credit Union will also provide financial education, educational scholarships, business opportunity research and development to our members.

The project team is currently refining our formal proposal for the regulatory application package. We have secured a briefing with the Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union leadership to finalize the operational framework for our Missouri expansion. Updates regarding the state banking committee outreach will follow once we receive their initial review.

The scale of recent support underscores the urgent demand for alternative financial institutions in these neighborhoods. I am now finalizing the formal proposal to be presented to the board of directors this week.
