Mountain biking and cyclocross in the summer/fall months, in addition to XC skiing in the winter months can do so much more for this and all twin cities communities. This can enhance youth involvement programs for both sports and ecology education. Trail building and other involvements are so valuable for this city. Also, I'd like to see better use of the land for food and prairie restoration. Thank you.

Thanks for your work on this! South Minneapolis needs to catch up with other suburban facilities. Great way to do it! Sounds like it could mesh with golfers' interests.

We skijor with our dog and would like to keep this at Hiawatha. I am not alienated by trying to keep dogs off groomed ski trails because it is annoying to have dogs and people step in the trails and wreck them. Improving the facilities for a South MPLS ski area is fabulous. Good luck with the petition.

I like the idea of expanding the resources for skiers (such as the signs and racks) but also feel that this petition is excluding dog owners who already use and love the area. In the winter I visit Hiawatha with my dog and he runs while I ski (we do this off trail) and I feel that the wording in this petition would alienate us. To incorporate off an leash area into this petition would definitely help me consider it.

The reason why the grass in front of the course is not cut is because the city has too much parkland to take care of. The reason why it's tightly manicured/or renovated inside the course is because you're wrong about the "demographics of golfers" and they do pay lots of money to keep it that way. If you turn it into public park a lot more people will have unkept grass in front of there house. Minneapolis has 15% of it's land mass dedicated to parks. 8% in New York is second most.

All of these comments are super positive about ski improvements because this petition was sent to us by the Loppet Foundation. I love the skiing too. BUT WHY TAKE AWAY THE GOLF COURSE? You want more hills, golfers do too. You want more trees? Golfers do too except on the fairways. You want another clubhouse? Great! DON'T TURN IT INTO A 9 HOLE GOLF COURSE. It won't work. The golf course is impossible to get a T-time if it's not set in advance that means there's 288 golfers paying $30 a day. This is the chunk of change required to keep a course nice. These people go away if it's a 9 hole course...like Fort Snelling.

I love all the skiing ideas! But getting rid of the 18 hole golf course is a BIG MISTAKE! Revenue will go from workable to useless. There are not anywhere near the number of skiiers/mountain bikers that are willing to pay any amount of money as there are golfers willing to pay $30 a round. 9 hole courses are worthless to golfers and as a result they lose revenue and the course turns to crap...like Fort Snelling! There's something special about a golf course in the inner-city. PLEASE don't take it away. I mountain bike, ski and play golf. I pay lots of money to play golf and find tons of cool free or very cheap trails to ski and mountain bike on.

Love the idea of making Hiawatha a larger Nordic and multifaceted destination for more people at the same time supporting our environment with a greener solution. As a member of S Mpls, I had no idea there was a Nordic ski option at Hiawatha so I would also suggest extensive marketing and social media campaigns to get the word out!

As a golfer in the summer and a skier in the winter I would fully support reducin g this course to 9 holes. There are a lot of golf courses, but what makes Minneapolis unique in the world is the urban skiing amenities it has. Please consider making Southeast Minneapolis share in the bounty that the Lakes folks have.

As a Minneapolis resident who is also a golfer, Nordic skier, biker and runner, I truly hope you'll consider transforming the Hiawatha Golf Course into a serious year-round recreation destination for the city. This would be a tremendous community and quality of life enhancement to so many people!

This is a fantastic idea. This would truly be a community supported and utilized amenity. I know skiers who don't currently use the course would invest in a pass with something of good quality so close in proximity. If the golf course is reworked to 9 holes and made more flood proof then having more change of grade would be a great addition to the ski course.

This is a great plan for a multi-use park that sits strategically in the middle of the city.
