MAINTAIN THE CURRENT R5 ZONING. I fully support affordable housing in Blacksburg and agree that the property at South Main and Country Club is a good location for affordable housing that MEETS THE CURRENT ZONING REQUIREMENTS.

I'm all for affordable housing but the Legacy on South Main development, in spite of all the positive points, is massive and out of place (does not fit the neighborhood). CHP can do a much better job. Let's respect the neighbors. And for the members of the Town Council, it's best to reject this rezoning if the Comprehensive Plan has any merit at all.

There is no way a developer should ever be granted 4 variances in zoning for one project. If granting this many variances there is no grounds to deny any project going forward.

CHP has chosen the path of least resistance to get this project approved, instead of an alternative zoning process that would have involved more opportunities for input from town residents.

Affordable housing and subsidized housing are both important, and there are better ways to create them than this. What's wrong with R-5? Too little profit for CHP and the property owner, Rengin Holt. Why are we neighbors who care about children's safety now the bad guys? Also, why did CHP's Melissa Jones not recuse herself from the Planning Commission vote?

It would be our hope that the TC and those working in and around the advance planning of these projects could have more imagination than to just stick density on places like this corner. Those of us fighting this density aren't against affordable housing and it is gaslighting for those in power (and others) to say that we are. It isn't an either/or as CHP threatens. We fancy ourselves a progressive thinking town, but never integrate innovated types of housing that blend in affordable housing like other towns have figured out long ago. Lets just stick an enormous building on a small corner, pat ourselves on the back and call it a day.

If this rezoning happens it shows that the town puts profiteers above people --- and that the so called 'comprehensive plan' is meaningless and can be drastically changed when enough money is involved. Which town employees will profit from this drastic erosion of our CP?

Please please please protect this land and use it for a less dense project. The fear for pedestrian, cyclist, child safety is real and this just isn't the right spot for what is proposed.
