My husband and I live within walking distance of Selby Gardens on Hudson Avenue. We strongly oppose the garage and, in particular, its proposed impact on vehicular traffic to and from our street.

My mother loved Selby Gardens and often spoke of the positive impact it has on the downtown community. She would hate to see the beauty of the Gardens turned into commercial property and a parking garage.

We chose to move to Sarasota over other cities last year for it's natural lush beauty. The neighborhoods south/east of Selby Gardens are the charm and soul of the area. Each resident takes pride in the beauty of their own tropical vegetation and surroundings. A large concrete commercial space at Selby Gardens to replace old growth trees doesn't sound like the Sarasota I had expected. Sometimes you just say enough is enough when pressured by commercial interests. Our common spaces need to breathe without choking! I'm sure there are plenty of Sarasota volunteers willing to help the cause and keep Selby a Garden and not a Garage.

I'm all for their need to improve their research facilities and improve their campus. But they are exceeding what is prudent for the neighborhood.

Please consider air quality, intrinsic beauty, a tranquil respite, and a halt to constant "progress" of more and more impersonal, unnaturally overwhelming concrete edifices. Progress is not always determined by change.

Seek out other options...leave our trees and gardens alone! Dont’t pave paradise to building a parking lot!!!

Selby needs greenhouses, not excessive parking garages for EVENTS. What in the world is this board and hired help thinking? This is a botanical garden. They have the membership money, volunteers and donors to keep it that way. Who are these people that are desperately trying to ruin a jewel in our midst!

We got married on the grounds of Selby 28 years ago because of the beauty of the place. Please keep itas a unique and tropical treasure of Sarasota. Our hearts would broke if the gardens became too commercial with building growth.

Grow Beautiful plants and trees and exotic plants that when you don’t see every day and keep the butterfly garden healthy! Michael’s on East does not need another venue for any reason! I say a Big NO to the parking garage!

Selby Garden is a public place, where wide range of people can enjoy, not only Sarasota county families but visitors as well. We can not let influential people to go forward with their project to build another prime location for wealthy groups of people.

Sometimes change is good, but not in this case. Sarasota has lost so many of it's historical sights. I've been here of 40 years and the Ringling Towers should have been saved at all cost. Selby needs to be left as is. That's the way it was supposed to be. There's way too much destruction being done in the name of " Progress ". I'm almost 100% sure that if tourist were polled, they would say ( leave it alone ).
