Please save the gardens... we need places like this to tell the story... we have plenty of place to hold events and to eat... we don't have enough gardens...

One must assume that Marie Selby envisioned all of her acreage as gorgeous gardens - not as a portion of it as a parking garage with an event venue on top. Is this plan even legal given her vision of what the gardens should be. Is there any neighborhood in Sarasota that will not be subjected to buildings incompatible with the area and heavy traffic snarling the streets? This proposed plan is not designed for the good of Sarasota residents but rather for the entertainment of tourists. Huge mistake.

If Selby Gardens has a parking issue they could easily build maybe a two-story garage on the existing footprint. A seven-story garage with a rooftop restaurant is simply a commercial move that does not serve the local community or the neighborhood. It will create a traffic nightmare and turn a quiet neighborhood into a high density commercial area. If you want more parking and have a rooftop restaurant then perhaps the ownership should look at buying a piece of real estate across the street next to the rest of the high risers.

Those beautiful trees took hundreds of years to mature and they would destroy them in a day, FOREVER.
Rename it the concrete monster with flowers..
