The dangerous ‘Safety Mirror’ turning out of Mills Avenue onto Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd.

the new mirrors make it more dangerous as they are not as clear as the old ones. It is difficult to see cars in the new mirrors

Mirror is unsafe. My visitor's are also complaining.

I use this intersection once a week. I have become use to the mirror on the right, but the image on the left is impossible! I now drive to Olinda to turn around!

Does someone have to be injured or die before Vic roads can admit they made a mistake, I have have 3 near misses in 4 days, the new mirrors are unacceptable

Very difficult to ascertain as to whether there is an oncoming vehicle from the left when turning onto mt dandenong tourist road from mills ave. the mirrors also fog over on cold mornings adding to no visibility at all.

Such a minor matter to address, yet we have to exhaust ourselves in demanding for basic safety requirements to be actioned. Got to love bureaucracy! The new mirrors are misaligned and actually inadequate. I totally agree with the Paul Wakefields observations and comments. The corner is dangerous enough without being compromised with these new mirrors. Please prioritise their replacement with the mirrors that were there originally.

Had no issues with the old mirrors over nearly three years, yet in the last few weeks had a number of close calls driving my car and also as a passenger in other cars. You can look left and right as many times as you like, but the moment you pull out a vehicle can appear completely out of nowhere. This is not the kind of thing people can adjust to over time, something really bad will end up happening at this intersection...

Very very dangerous! Neal and I have had a few near misses and to be told to see if we can get used to it, is absurd. How long before there is a terrible accident!

Poor visibility and inadequate provision to observe traffic, when pulling out from the Mills Ave, is hazardous. Needs to be addressed NOW!

As a relatively new resident to Mills Ave, I am shocked that after 30 years with a clean driving record I have already had 2 serious near misses in a short space of time - with children learning to drive, we are too afraid to allow them to drive out of this intersection. These mirrors are grossly inadequate. The image is too small to see until something is almost on top of you. Many vehicles come around the bend much faster than the 45 recommended speed. When vehicles do not use lights, they are much harder to see, as are bikes; and if the mirrors are fogged - you have no chance, even when heading towards Olinda as a last resort for safety. Please replace them for mirrors with a larger clearer image and/or introduce another secondary safety option, as a back up. This is such a dangerous corner, I fear its only a matter of time before there is a fatality.

In the last 6 weeks my tally has been 1 bus, 2 cyclists and a car. I have been turning right for the last 20 years, and have had only 1 near miss in that time. Please return the old mirrors ... they worked perfectly.

I feel far less confident pulling out of Mills Ave now with the new mirrors, and have already had one near miss. I would like both mirrors to be replaced. I also find they get more foggy than the old ones, and because of the increased convex, the sun now glares in them at certain points of the day, making visibility impossible. I can't see how continuing to monitor a mirror I cannot see anything in is going to help the situation.

Thanks VicRoads for that rediculously inadequate response. Just to be clear, the size of the mirrors is not the issue, it is the increased convex which make objects very small and hard to pick up even in good conditions. It is now a very dangerous intersection. And it is not just the left facing mirror, both need need to returned to what we had previously. I now find it necessary to lower the window and listen for oncoming traffic, a poor reflection indeed on the efficacy of the new mirrors.

I have been driving out of mills avenue every day for over 10 years and never had a problem with the mirror. In the last two weeks I have nearly had an addicent twice, and now don't have the confidence to use them. Even in the dark the mirror image is so far away you can't make out if it's a car or the street light. I am shocked that a complaint has been made and the response wasn't to immediately change the mirror. Will it take a resident to have a car crash for them to do something?

It is extremely difficult to see what is happening in these mirrors at the very point where visibility is required, especially in anything other than "normal" conditions. I agree they need to be replaced with more appropriate mirrors. I also believe no amount of time will make this any easier.

Especially in wet, foggy or filtered sun conditions. Add to this the silver road side barrier at the far end (bend) of Mt Dandenong Tourist Road to the left which makes it hard to distinguish barrier from approaching car :-(.
