Something that is long overdue to recognise at last his contribution to the Great War. Have been a fan of Bairnsfather for over 30 years and admire his contribution to keeping peoples morale going in WW1

This should be a 'no brainer.'

I've always been a fan of Bairnsfather, whose skill as an artist, allied by his delightful sense of humour under the most trying circumstances, produced morale-boosting peaks that were archetypically British. One of my wife's favourite pieces of verse is the Rubaiyat - so what else could I buy her as a birthday gift many years ago but Bairnsfather's take on "a loaf of bread, a flask of wine, and thou, beside me, singing in the wilderness". Pure genius.

I think he was every bit as important as the official war artists in brining the war to the home front.
