The huge recognition and thanks that Bruce Bairnsfather received during and after WW1 must not be forgotten and should be acknowledged at the same time as we remember all those who served and whose morale was lifted by his work.

It is imperitive that this mans work did so much to keep the morale of the men up together with those at home

I am very happy to be associated with this petition - Bruce did a sterling job in WW1, and then again - working alongside the U.S. 8th Army Air Force in England in WW2.

How can be recognition be denied when he made a significant improvement in morale. The fact that the Establishment were upset is probably why they were so popular.

Bruce Bairnsfather was a special part of my childhood. Whenever I went to stay with my aunt and uncle, my uncle would let me look through his copy of Frangments from France. Now the cartoons have a different special meaning in that they showed what what my uncle and his brother in law, my grandfather, experienced

100 yrs & counting. It's Now time for recognition. To have so much produced for Government propaganda purposes & keep morale high it's a disgrace not to do something

My grandfather knew Bruce Bairnsfather and mentions him often in his diary- e.g. December 31st 1914: Bruce Bairnsfather dined with us, sang some of his songs and showed us some of his sketches and we all saw the New Year in. O dear!' Wonderful depictions of Tommies and the trials and tribulations they had to endure based on his and others' experiences. (see Meet at Dawn, Unarmed) Absolute disgrace that he has not received the recognition he deserves- WAKE UP IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM!

His view of the war proved humanity can survive even the horror of war.

My father, Frank Hope was in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment from 1917 to 1919 and served in the trenches. Although he never spoke much about the war, he did mention occasionally OLD BILL - always with a grin. OLD BILL probably provided the only light moments in that time of sheer horror. BB needs to be recognised for bringing some relief to the soldiers during that time.

After nearly 100 years it is time to recognise the contribution of this remarkable man. Showing things as they were was what made his cartoons popular amongst the population at large. Sadly the stuffy 'top brass' and supposedly intelligent politicians and art critics resented this popular approach -to their shame. Make good this travesty!

I knew a Great War Veteran Charles Holman MM , and he told me that he met BB , and it was the old Bill cartoons that sometime reminded him of his Father !!
