Bullying is an incredibly huge problem in schools throughout the United States. The Weinstein Company has produced a documentary highlighting the effects and victims of bullying in the schools. It is an important movie, and schools over the country have organized trips to go see it, hoping kids will see the effects of bullying, or that those who are bullied find hope and peace. However, the MPAA(who rate movies for distribution in the U.S.) have deemed the movie deserving of an R rating, due to coarse language delivered by interviewed students. Because of this, schools have had to cancel their trips and many children will not be able to see this movie, be it because their parents won't allow it, or because they won't be able to see the movie alone. This petition requests support in favor of lowering the movie's rating, so that children in middle and high schools can see this documentary. I also encourage submissions of stories about bullying to the following email address -> [email protected] so that they may be shared when presenting this petition.

Updates

March 29, 2012

The MPAA continues to ignore our concerns while more schools cancel their planned screenings. Email your local representative to demand they pressure the board for a rating change. Send your personal bullying stories to [email protected] so I can include more voices when we present these signatures.

The momentum behind this push to re-rate the documentary is real and growing fast. Post the link to your Facebook feed and text three friends who have school-aged kids to keep this energy moving. We need to keep pressure on the MPAA until they listen.

Schools should have been showing this yesterday. Total nonsense keeping kids out of the theater over bad language when the message is about literally saving lives.

My son deals with this at school and this film is exactly what he needs to see. fix the rating so kids can actually watch it.

are you kidding me? an R rating for a doc about bullying? kids need to see this real life stuff not have adults shield them from words they hear in the hallways every single day.
