Residents should have priority as well as clearance to park in lots that are nearest to their dorms, because well, why shouldn't we?

Resident parking sucks. Just make all the lots residential/commuter so it becomes first come first serve and at least a little more fair.

Got a ticket for parking at the gym. I'm paying for parking, paying for a gym membership but I'm not allowed to park at the gym?

Setting aside the fact that the university has plans to grow to over 20,000 students in the next 4 years, today in the hear and now we already have too many cars parking on campus and not enough spots to house them (efficiently). The purpose of the university having lots spread over campus is so that students, faculty, staff and visitors are able to park conveniently and remotely close to where they need to be. However this purpose is negated since there are never enough spots in the lots around the academic area of campus to house the amount of cars trying to use them. Parking Services has done little to nothing to remedy this problem, and in fact has made it worse. Instead of expanding and building lots around the biggest student living communities on campus, or even changing policies so that residents have some sort of priority to park close to their resident hall, they have in fact removed spots that residents are able to park in (the lot across from Rafuse for example). There is no benefit for students living on campus allowing them to make use of the lots designated to their community. Indeed, quite the opposite is true; residents are at a disadvantage to commuters. At a basic logistic level, parking on campus is infuriatingly disorganized and completely backwards. How is it that Parking Services has never asked the question; why is it that the biggest community on campus doesn’t have a designated place for its residents to park? It’s not as if there was some design mistake made years ago. Dickenson and Newing have both been built within the last 5 years. Frankly, do the math! Does the number of spots in the Newing and CIW parking lots have enough spots for the residents with cars who live in those communities as well as the commuters who park there daily? No, they do not! Commuters get to park everywhere! They even take up resident parking spots so we can't park! We need more spaces to park overnight! Let them park in their spots overnight and leave ours alone!

The campus was designed with parking on the outskirts which makes every walk dreadful, especially during the winter

I'm SO glad this issue is finally getting addressed. Living in Dickinson, it's extremely frustrating to watch commuters being able to take spots right next to Digman that we're not allowed to take despite it being right next to our community. Even though I'm living off campus next year, this needs to change.

Because no student that pays for tuition, room/board, a parking permit and a gym membership should be ticketed for parking in the parking lot in front of the gym.

I won't need this parking until next year but I'll be living off campus. I don't want to pay $140 for a parking pass that I won't even be using on a daily basis. The price itself is ridiculous-- we not only have to pay to join the gym unlike a school like Albany where it is included, but also pay over $100 for parking we are not even guaranteed, and at Albany its only $40.

I live in Dickinson and have spent >1 hour on MULTIPLE occasions looking for ANY parking spot on campus near my community (CIW/Newing) to park in. I should not have to park in the Mountainview parking lots when there is ample (commuter!!!!) parking set up around my residential community. If students chose
To move off campus, they should be the ones who are not 'guaranteed' a spot given that I am paying to live on campus AND paying for resident parking.

Man am I happy to see this issue being addressed. Parking is ridiculous here and the parking services fails to take the students into consideration, they just straight up only care about the money.

The parking issues are absurd. I shouldn't have to pay $140 to park in Susquehanna when I live in CIW. It is a nightmare to find a parking spot where I won't be forced to walk a far distance at almost any given time, and I find myself using the campus shuttle a LOT more than I would like to.
While there absolutely are issues that commuters face, I feel that parking is still biased towards them-- they are allowed to park in lots closer to buildings, as well as residential parking, leaving those who actually live on campus with very few spots. Regardless, there simply are not enough spots for any group of students.
It seems that parking services is only interested in making money, what with their paid lots and giving out an excessive amount of tickets. If they put half as much effort into addressing this issue as they do to bleeding students dry for their money, then I bet that they could find a solution rather quickly.
