The anti-racing, anti-NGA Greyhound Greyhound Club of America should not be the ASFA-recognized breed parent club for Greyhounds!

The original purpose of the Greyhound was coursing for game (aka running at high speed over varied terrain) which is a very physically demanding activity requiring sound dogs with strong chase instinct. Conformation showing (which I will add, I participate in myself) does not test these aspects of the dog in any way, and at best only theoretically predicts which dogs *may* be suited to do the job they were bred for. Coursing is the only true test of ability for a dog bred to course, with racing a very close second. The GCA, with its exclusionary policies toward those who primarily race their dogs or those who criticize conformation shows, is not acting in the best interest of the breed at large. They in fact hold influence over only a handful of members and a few hundred dogs of the tens of thousands born annually. For these reasons, the GCA should not hold a position as the ASFA-partnered "parent club" of the Greyhound. If anyone, it should be the NGA, as they oversee the highest number of Greyhounds in the USA and also the highest number of active, functional dogs who still honor and preserve their original purpose.

The greyhound dog breed loves running and racing. I can see my own greyhound run and the enjoyment he gets doing it. So those that oppose racing have apparently been able to mind meld into the racing greyhound's brain and found that the dog hates it. I think not. So lets stop coon hounds from hunting, pointers from pointing, and retrievers from retrieving, as in their opinion are in misery while doing so. How far off the true path some have come.

Why do they want in? What are their reasons for wanting to become an ASFA club????? Please ASFA, think really hard about your decision.

NGA Greyhounds should be the group admitted.

Any group wishing to represent the breed should represent the entire breed. Not just one faction that they support with the exclusion of the majority of greyhounds that actually participate in ASFA events. GCA should not be allowed to represent the breed.

If they cannot recognize that the NGA dogs are just as important as AKC dogs to the overall gene pool of the Greyhound breed they have no right to represent the breed as a whole.

NGA is the best guardian of the greyhound.

You do not represent the views of greyhound racing.

A 'breed club' which intentionally represents only a very small fraction of that breed has no legitimate claim to be considered the parent club for that breed. The GCA is such a club, and should not be honored with such a designation.

To allow GCA to be the ASFA parent club will widen the gap between the "show" and "performance" Greyhound

NGA dogs meet the true standard of form follows function. Slim chested huge dogs can't move.

Lure coursing is in the best interest of sighthounds. It’s in their DNA to run.

A damn shame the GCA doesn’t care for the ENTIRE BREED!

Regardless of racing stance the NGA bred greyhound is an athlete and should be regarded as a member of ANY breed specific club. If GCA becomes the ASFA-recognized breed parent club the largest group of purebred greyhounds would be excluded. Please sign this petition!!

As an adopter of 4 retired NGA Greyhounds and the foster mom to more than 40, it sounds to me like this organization does not encourage NGA greyhound participation and appreciate our dogs’ rich history on the track.

Anyone who doesn't understand greyhound racing these days should investigate it like i did. If you are againt it then you really don't understand greyhounds and shouldn't own or represent them.
