As we fight for full medical staffing privileges for licensees, including a voice in due process, we must lead the way from within our own organization.

Kate McHugh is one of the finest nurse-Midwives I have had the pleasure of knowing. I fully support her and object to her unfair treatment by ACNM.

If indeed these actions were taken in the best interest of the organization and members it serves, an audit should show this. Under no circumstances is summarily firing staff in good standing and walking them out of the office corporate-style representative of this community's values, and there should be accountability to the members for such behavior.

I missed the annual meeting so don't know all the particulars, but I do know both Elaine and Kate who are outstanding in their jobs so I don't understand why they would "be fired."

Without transparency and full accountability from the President and CEO of ACNM to the members they supposedly serve, I am reevaluating whether or not I should continue to be part of this organization.

Indeed-it is sad to be treated within our organization as so many institutions treat midwives. Clarity on the issue, please.

Between the issues around diversity, representation, and inclusion, and now this abrupt and unexplained firing of two longtime staff member (and the loss of institutional memory that their departure represents), I am left really scratching my head about what is going on with this organization. As a member working as a volunteer at the state level, I want the national organization to be there to support and promote midwifery in the US and internationally, and all this assorted drama takes away from the mission of the organization. It is a turn-off for current members and also non-members who might be contemplating joining. We need transparency and a functioning national office.

The sudden “departure” of these two incredibly dedicated CNMs begs for sunlight-and in the organization we look to for representation! Respectfully, this does not feel right.

We need more background information. What let up to the firing? Are the board of directors accountable to the members?

We need to stand together and unite our voice within the broader maternal child health arena, not be pulled apart. If we cannot demonstrate that we have a cohesive organization, we will begin to lose invitations to join the table on important issues. Given the significant transitions in our organizational leadership over the past few years, I agree with an external audit and would support the implementation of their recommendations. We must commit to both transparency during and follow through after this process.

I was shocked by the fact that these dedicated midwives were leaving the organization . Please investigate the process by which this came about.

An independent review promotes transparency and trust. Every organization should periodically examine its culture and look for ways to improve.

I would appreciate a third party evaluation of how we’re doing business. This could provide opportunities for change and growth that we otherwise would not have been able to acknowledge.
