We, the undersigned, request that the music regularly played during chapel and convocation services at Lee University, as heard by anyone sitting anywhere in the seats in the audience, not exceed 84 decibels in volume. According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, "Prolonged exposure to any noise at or above 85 decibels can cause gradual hearing loss;" "No more than 15 minutes of unprotected exposure [to 100 decibels is] recommended;" "Regular exposure [to 110 decibels] of more than 1 minute risks permanent hearing loss." I have been hearing from so many of you who leave chapel with ringing ears and headaches. It is clear that this is a widespread pain point that affects our ability to focus on the service. I am currently working to get a sit-down conversation with the folks in charge to discuss a safer volume limit.

Seeing this much support confirms that I am not the only one leaving chapel with physical pain in my ears. We have enough momentum now to show the administration that our long term health must be prioritized over the volume setting.

It was so painful during the last service that I had to step out. Please listen to us.
Im all for worship but it shouldn't feel like a rock concert where you leave with a migraine.
Finally. Some of us actually want to hear when we are 40. Tone it down.
I have to bring earplugs just to sit through the music. That shouldnt be happening in chapel!
