We, the undersigned, request that the music regularly played during chapel and convocation services at Lee University, as heard by anyone sitting anywhere in the seats in the audience, not exceed 84 decibels in volume. According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, "Prolonged exposure to any noise at or above 85 decibels can cause gradual hearing loss;" "No more than 15 minutes of unprotected exposure [to 100 decibels is] recommended;" "Regular exposure [to 110 decibels] of more than 1 minute risks permanent hearing loss." For more information, contact the NIDCD Information Clearinghouse.
