SMUHSD 2021 AP Testing Schedule Needs to be Changed Now

Do the right thing. Let these students take their AP exams BEFORE school ends!

Everyone in the SMUHSD community should also consider student's perspective and need - let them take the paper and pencil tests. We tried the online version in 2020 under the extra case and it didn't work for a lot of students. By the time students take the test this year, all the teachers would have been vaccinated so time to do the in-person testing to help our students.

Please move the tests during the school year and in-school, the usual method, paper/pencil, etc.

Online testing is a lot of time just entering info online and dealing with the tech challenges. That is not right. The test should be as normal if that is pen or paper and then submitted. In person can work which is best.

The online only option is particularly detrimental for students who require accommodations. Please reconsider

I have 3 seniors taking multiple tests. If nothing changes by next weekend, we will withdraw and request refund. June testing is not acceptable.

Please make sure our students have all of the advantages that other district’s students are getting. In person pencil/paper AP tests will provide that equity.

Please reconsider moving the tests back to May and in-schools, paper pencil.

Potentially impacts our summer vacation plans.

My child won't take AP tests until next year, but it is unfair to this year's students to force them to take the online test, which prevents revisiting questions and makes them type out formulae. The tech requirements (including uninterrupted internet access) are too great for many students in the district. We now know some students will be returning to campus, so it is possible to safely bring back students for AP tests. They can be held in gyms or cafeterias with widely spaced work stations. Please offer in person tests and save the online version for students who simply cannot attend in person.

Students not being able to revisit skipped questions is unacceptable.

I'm an SMHS alum and I've taken 12 AP exams. I can't imagine having to take these online versions - not being able to go back and check my answers, having to type in math/science equations on the keyboard, and dealing with potential technical glitches. The AP exams are challenging enough without having these added obstacles! The district need to offer in-person, paper-and-pencil tests to all students.

Math and physics AP exams having to be typed out really sounds like a huge disadvantage. Couple that with not being able to go back and review previous questions or skip between questions, and it feels the odds are against students doing their best, and all this after already spending the year learning remotely. I'd prefer to see the exams given in person, during the month of May so that AP students aren't penalized with an additional two weeks of school.

These tests can safely be offered on campus. My kids don’t need the extra stress that results from online test-taking!

Totally agree. I have been giving online tests to where I teach. I always allow the backtracking option. I also think scheduling this when kids are out of school is ridiculous.

Online exams do not work. We experienced that last spring.
