I fully support this petition. I did not realized that we had different policies for leave; our NTL colleagues absolutely deserve the same new-parent benefits as the tenure-line faculty.

It is difficult to consider a FTNTL position a professional career without parental leave. If you want the FTNTL to be committed members of the university, rather than a pass through job, you need to provide the benefits that will allow them to stay.

I whole-heartedly support this petition. As somebody who got to enjoy new parental leave, I think that our FTNTL colleagues absolutely deserve the same.

The stated rationale for the policy for tenure line faculty:
"Rationale: The New Parent Leave option is structured as a semester-long (or semester-remainder) leave to minimize instruction disruption within the semester. New Parent Leave is offered with full pay because Ordinary Faculty do not have the opportunity to accrue paid leave in order to take extended time off during a period of family need."
NTL faculty also do not have the opportunity to accrue paid leave, and the potential for disruption to instruction is even greater given their usually heavier teaching loads.

I strongly endorse this petition. It would be a strong statement from the administration showing that they value the labor of their FTNTL colleagues.

I was lucky enough to work for an organization that provided me with full parental leave when my daughter was born and joined our family through adoption. Parental leave is about providing time for new parents to bond with and care for a child. Georgetown should make their policy fair and recognize all parents.

All Multi-Year FTNTL should have the same right and benefits as TL. They have been contributing to the long-term goals and agenda of the university and their department. Their contributions have been in-line with their TL colleagues, and in many cases even more. Thus, there is no humanistic justification for any such sort of discrimination.

FTNTL faculty have the same burdens of teaching and administration and should be granted the same benefits. In fact, I had assumed they already received them.
Absolutely support.
