I have had a finger put into my face when I brought attention to an older gentleman faced down in the street around the corner. I watched the same officer as her and another officer (yes TWO officers) interrogated and intimated a young girl in line for the bar. As I wait in line, the officers never left. I have personally had calls of domestic abuse that have taken an intolerably unnecessarily long amount of time to arrive. I have heard the response from the officers at the meetings, about their inability to respond appropriately to situations of immense severity, which in itself is alarming... then arrive to every noise complaint on time. I understand moments of true danger do not generate revenue, but to see our judicial system take this direction is frankly appalling. This place place that I love truly is turning into a place that not only doesn’t prioritize safety, but considers it second towards commission, and that is not something I can be proud of in a place I call home. To all the parents and children considering Mizzou, who value safety, consider this before you make your final leap into independence. The police are not on your side.

This idea is ridiculous. It won’t change anything re underage or binge drinking and will inhibit competition and marketing downtown.

Altogether this ordnance is stupid simply because it’s going to affect smaller bars and establishments which are staples of Columbia that college kids don’t even typically go to.
