Am a female large animal/rural vet, was lucky enough to spend some time at Massey last year and thought it was a wonderful progressive place with very competent students- the words of this ignorant idiot don't represent the student body/MUVSA at all and he should be held accountable for that.

This petition doesn't even mention the part where he thinks the profession would be diminished by having higher rates of women

Absolutely appalling that a "leader" at a publically funded institution holds such ridiculously sexist opinions.

People in positions of power that have these beliefs/thoughts are a threat to the progress and enlightenment of society

After a ten hour working day I'm looking forward to knocking off 2/5ths of the way through my day tomorrow to nurse my ovaries! Please Chris, go have a korero with a working veterinarian mother and see if they agree with that 2/5ths comment, you appear to be a little out of touch with today's working women.

In addition to the points already raised, Mr Kelly's article does nothing to address the many other factors associated with low rates of retention of vets in rural jobs. As chancellor of a well respected and forward thinking academic institution, attention to the facts should be paramount. I question whether an individual expressing these outdated opinions and completely ignoring the data which is available to him is fit to be in his position. I hope Massey is questioning his suitability for his position also

Massey graduate that blew off steam using booze and bad decisions and still managed to graduate. I will also not be using my ovaries at any point.

I would like to see this man undergo further education in women's studies so that he understands why his words were wrong. If he just gets fired there will be no impetus for change and he will just be bitter at us.

He should lose his job. Completely unacceptable attitude on so many levels.

Add to that, many men leave the profession and many men have no interest in rural practice.

Thoroughly out of step and offencesive comments for which Sir you should apoguse at the very least. After appointing a female veterinarian as the new VC at Massey one knight want to retract these comments.

"...the problem is one ***woman*** graduate is equivalent to two-fifths of a fulltime equivalent vet throughout her life because she gets married and has a family, which is normal." Waiting for Chris Kelly to step down. Contrary to his original words, I have made lifestyle choices in order to advance my veterinary career and do not for one moment believe I am worth any less than a male vet, nor are part timers worth only 2/5th of their counterparts! I am appalled and disappointed beyond belief that a University Chancellor would make such a statement, especially having been to vet school and dropped out of the veterinary industry himself.

It is very disappointing to encounter such an attitude in a University Chancellor. As a Massey student, the Chancellors words taint my study plans with a sense of futility given my gender. I need to know this is not a Massey held view . I think he should go.

As a vet I find these comments highly offensive and judgemental. It is attitudes like this that discredit the profession and are totally unacceptable from anyone but especially from a person in his position. Chris obviously has a very poor understanding of current clinical practice. I am ashamed that a man such as this is associated with Massey and our profession.

As a student of Massey University currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Health and currently writing an essay on gender inequality in NZ this absolutely outrages me! It's a complete disgrace that someone of his bearing is thinking let alone uttering these statements!

Those views have no place in our society
