Terrible choice of words, and putting down other people abilities is awful. Being scaffolder in my spare time I pride myself on being able to do anything a man can do.

As a female veterinarian I was highly offended that I apparently cannot achieve, or produce like a man in my career because I chose to also have a family. Certainly only a man would think you cannot do both. Attitudes like this are prevalent in our field, and for a man in his position to encourage them is infuriating.

Chris Kelly must go.

No apology can recant these words - they were freely given and clearly reflect consistently sexist views that are unacceptable in a Chancellor of a modern university.

We are worth so much more than that!

Extremely sexist and inaccurate comments, indicative of some of the problems in the industry.

There is no place for this thinking, especially at NZ's only veterinary school.

Such attitudes are not only indefensible, they offend every positive thing an institution like Massey University should represent

Totally agree. His apology does not cut it, people in leadership must be held responsible for the statements they make. If you don't mean it, don't say it!

Makes me embarrassed about higher education in New Zealand. This fossil should go, and the Massey University Council should make sure all its representatives are committed to equality and non-discrimination from the top down.

As a full time female veterinary academic of 20 years, mother, primary income earner, and top 2% of the worlds most cited researchers, I find these comments ignorant and offensive!

How can a university have someone so intellectually inadequate as its chancellor. He needs to be replaced.

Let the records reflect this is one entire signature rather than 2/5ths of one.

I'm not a very or a vet nurse but I'm a female student in a business degree at Massey and to know the chancellor of my chosen education provider would say this is disgusting

Every line in this was full of sexist (and just plain inaccurate!) dribble. The need for more people going from vet into rural practice is real, but it has nothing to do with male/female, and much to do with the fact that entry is strictly grade based. It should also be pointed out that Massey Ag and Vet degrees are already VERY ag based, from the begining of the course. Don't know what planet this guy is from, but its not Massey's, he should maybe go back to uni and learn what is really going on.

His comments are archaic and incorrect. What a negative image to place on both male and female veterinary students and professionals.

This is ridiculous..male superiority is surely a thing of the past. We run a high country station and 3 out if 4 of our vets are females and they do a fantastic job

If Kelly couldn't anticipate the reaction to his ill-informed comments then he really shouldn't be chancellor.
