Please understand this is not a moratorium on houses to be built this is an effort to shut down Poultry Ag in Maryland. My husband and I are a family of two we have raised chickens for 33 years. By todays standards our two farms are small but this would put is out of business. Any other business that is just collateral damage I guess. I would suggest that Senator Lam and Delegate Stewart and their progressive liberal co sponsors show a little liberalism and compassion for farmers, we too are a minority. We are few and feed the world, we are an aging group and outright attacks such as this discourage young people from farming. Attacks like this are unconscionable. I wonder would you tell your urban constituents how many donut shops, coffee shops or any family business that they could own??s I don't think so. Please vote no to this Bill!

An average size poultry farm at least 6 houses produces 780,000 birds per year. If you are just starting out and financing the houses you can probably only bring home 11,000.00 per house per year. So the typical family operation would have a take home of under $70,000.00 per year. Please do not forward this bill in any form.

I am a veteran. I am now a farmer, a 1st generation farmer. My wife is a 2nd generation farmer and and an immigrant, legal, to this fine country I defended for 13 years.
In other words, my family and I are in the 1%. 1% serves in the military and 1% are farmers. To ensure the message is received, 1% protects 100% and 1% feeds 100%.
A proposal to take away our livelihood is abhorrent. I cannot imagine a law, written by lawyers, to make practicing law illegal. Why do you want to take away our livelihood and the very source of where a majority of your food comes from?
Furthermore, through these proposals, you want to exploit the farmer's misfortune. If we lose a barn by whatever means, your proposal will not allow us to rebuild. Will it also provide a subsidy to pay us for a lifetime of loss of income from that barn, fill the stomachs of those who could have been fed, and allow for a mortgage reduction to the bank for the loss of that barn? If not, we will rebuild.
Your proposals are not well thought through. If you truly evaluate your suggestions, you would see the ripple effect. If you have and suggested them anyway, we, the constituency, need new leadership.
