Vodafone/O2 Telephone Mast has been sited right next to Marlborough House School, Hawkhurst, Kent, UK

I woul like the mast moved away from my grandchildren's school as I am worried about the long term effects this may have on their health.

Should never have been allowed to go up next to a school. What were they thinking??

Better safe than sorry!

Unlike nuclear radiation, the long term effect of waves from radio and TV masts in close proximity is not known. It is notable that when maintenance is performed on TV transmitters, the power is substantially reduced.

As Councillor Robert Brown said: “The trouble is no-one really knows yet if there is a risk to health but we do know that scientific advice warns against long intensive use of mobile phones, especially by children. All this calls for a precautionary approach, particularly when phone masts are suggested to be sited near schools.” .... well if you applied common sense (and some may call it a simple and logical approach), it would not be hard to arrive at the decision that the mast should ‘not be placed near a School and find an alternative location’ ... it’s not like the area in question is in the middle of London with minimal space ... we are in the middle of the countryside and thus plenty of room for a site ‘not near a school’ .... to those who made this decision within the Council ask yourself the following question ‘did I apply common sense in my approach and do everything possible to ensure that the mast is not located near a school’ ... if you cannot say yes, then you are not only failing the community but also yourselves within your planning and execution roles for the Council. Shocking!

There must be community consultation before this goes ahead. Please make public the names of those behind this so that they can be held accountable.

Having worked in the elctronics industry there is a known risk with high frequency radio waves.

Unthinkable. Outside a school. Should not be allowed. Must be removed.

Masts should not be placed next to schools

For the health of the School children and local people in the area speaks for itself, It must be removed.

Astonished that TW council placed this so close to a school.

Common sense says if there are guidelines on children using mobiles then a mobile mast is no different. Children's bodies are developing and research is not yet complete on the health effects of microwave radiation. Ignorance is not an excuse. No risk should be taken in siting cell towers near places where children spend considerable amounts of time. Do not gamble with our children's health.

Whose idea was that ?

Presumed safe until proven not safe - let's remember the tabacco industry. Please don't gamble with my children's health.

Young children have a right to attend their school without health risk however small or unknown at the present time. I support the action to have the mast removed.

If other countries ban phone masts near schools then why doesn't the UK, TWBC, Vodaphone and O2 take the same precautionary measures.

Disgraceful.....if the government sponsored Stewart Report recommends a “precautionary approach” in particular where children and mobile phone technology is concerned, then siting a mobile phone mast next to a school is an obvious no-no! Please move it to a safer location ASAP.

Can't think of a more inappropriate location. Why would anyone purposely expose the children to such danger.

I suggest a freedom of information request be made to find out what Tunbridge Wells Council is making from this mast - they rent the site to the mobile phone companies.
