Wetlands are critical to the survival of many reptiles and amphibians- not to mention birds, fish and small mammals. Any intrusion or degradation by horse traffic (direct mortality, siltation and nutrification from feces) will impair the quality of this habitat and reduce its usefullness for wildlife.

I have worked in this wetland with Dr. Wilson, and have taken my own classes to this area to do small mammal diversity surveys. I am therefore acutle aware of the significance of this wetland, and its sensitivity to disturbace. The county has some 3000 acres available to it at the Enterprise South plot, and I see no reason why horse trails couldn't be kept far from this wetland.

This wet land is so important not only for the species that live there, but for the students at UTC. I learned so much working on Team Salamander and everyone after me deserves that same opportunity.

This is a longterm study and is very beneficial to the area as well as those students who have learned very much from it over the past 10 years. Please don't ruin all the research that has already been done.

Amphibians are experiencing a serious decline in populations all over the globe. That includes areas in the U.S. Due to this decline all efforts to protect them and their habitats is of paramount importance.
