This petition is to gauge the feeling of DCTA members to the new payroll frequency.
According to our contract:
30.6.4 PAYMENT OF SALARIES
30.6.4.1 METHOD OF PAYMENT: The amounts shown on this salary schedule are annual salaries for year-round assignments which require the full number of scheduled workdays in the board adopted calendar. If a unit member works fewer than the full number of scheduled workdays because of late start, unpaid leave, resignation, etc. earnings will be prorated based on the number of days worked. For unit members' paydays normally will be the last day of the month.
Since the contract language uses the word "normally" the change is not a violation of our contract.
By signing this petition you, the DCTA member, are showing that you do NOT support the current change in pay frequency.

The lack of timely communication about our pay frequency and payroll system changing is unacceptable by the board, administration and HR department.
In my opinion, this should have been negotiated because talk of pay frequency is in our contract. Although it uses the word normally, I would like to delete the word normally at the next negotiations meeting. I think the word normally is there because sometimes we get paid two days before the last day of the month, so the assumption is that we always got paid monthly most of the time it would go in the last day of the month sometimes it might be a day before that. I want administration to know that this is a unilateral change in working conditions and they have no right to change some thing that has been past practices for a very long time.

This pay schedule makes it very difficult for single income households. It not only breaks our payment up which creates difficulties around when bills are due, but on a very tight budget to then have set aside money each month to be able to meet all financial obligations from 6/25 through to 8/10 is undue hardship.
