We, the under signed, believe in establishing a policy of required equal respect between and their students in Souhegan High School. Not all teachers are as respectful to their students as their students are to them. Respect should be given in order to be taken, and thus, the policy we hope to establish known as the Teacher Respect Policy would allow student's opinions on their lack of respect in the school be voiced. When a student doesn't feel comfortable in the teaching environment, they simply don't learn and have a stronger urge to rebel against the teacher than focus on their studies. According to the book School Connectedness, "students are more likely to succeed when they feel more connected to the school or their teachers." Teachers are taught when getting their degree the basic principles of respect towards their students, though many don't follow such a concept, and students suffer as a result. These ethical concepts are taught in various college text books such as The Ethics of Teaching. Teacher quality is the issue, according to Bill Gates and Author Jennifer King Right, when a class is attempted to be taught by a bad teacher, it impacts the students' ability to learn in a negative way. Let's make Souhegan a better place and sign this petition to make sure teachers always respect their students.

Some teachers there act like they own the place and talk down to us like we are idiots. It makes it impossible to even want to show up to class.
