Dear Friends and Families of Tam Baseball:
On Friday, October 30th, without prior notice and without specification of cause, Coach Osder was told that his association with Tam High was terminated. Efforts to determine why he was terminated after being reinstated in June were unsuccessful. There are over 100 Tam High Baseball supporters who have endorsed his reinstatement, and we are gaining more daily. In an effort to streamline the process of gathering supporters, we have put together this iPetition.
If you would like to support open school administration, maintaining the integrity of the Tam High Baseball program and reinstatement of Coach Osder, please sign this petition.While many of you are looking for the reason this has repeatedly happened to the coach and the baseball program, we as Tam Baseball families have not been made aware as to why. Additionally, by the shear number of supporters, (these 100+ represent immediate Tam Baseball Player's families) you can deduce that there is much support for the program and that we have seen nothing as parents or through our students that warrant this rash decision.
Unfortunately, termination of baseball coaches with little or no explanation (7-8 coaches in the last 15 years) seems to occur frequently at Tam High to the detriment of our student baseball players, player parents, the student body and the Tam High community.
Many of us have chosen Tam High or are planning to do so in part, because of the baseball program. We believe that the openness and transparency by the Tam High administration is essential for community support. Further, maintaining the continuity and integrity of the baseball program introduced by Coach Osder is essential to the continued success of Tam's baseball team and the development of our student baseball players.
Several student and parent groups plan to attend the Tam Union High School District Board meeting, November 17 at 7 pm at Redwood High, to express our point-of-view.
Additionally, if you would like to express your opinions and concerns to the Board directly, you may enter your comments in the section provided. You may also express your support/concerns directly to the Tam District Board at: www.tamdistrict.org/domain/36.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stepped up to support Coach Osder. This momentum belongs entirely to this community and your commitment to our players. I never imagined we would see this kind of energy so quickly.

My husband, myself and my two sons wholeheartedly support Scott Osder. My eldest son played for 4 years for Tam, had a terrific experience with Scott as his coach, and has gone on to play baseball for Claremont McKenna College, a top ten liberal arts college, through Scott's support. My youngest son had his best baseball year ever as a freshman at Tam, after years of not very good Little League experiences, in part because of Scott's strategy to advance stronger players to their appropriate competitive level, which allows other players a chance to develop and be on the field.
Coach Scott is an outstanding coach. Through role modeling and direct instruction, He imparts onto the his players how to become an exceptional athlete while maintaining integrity, respect, humility, and dignity. Tam High is fortunate to have a coach of such high caliber. The lack of transparency, abruptness, and manner in which they have chosen to release Coach from his position runs against all that Coach has taught his players... it shows poor integrity, arrogance, disrespect, and injustice. As others have mentioned, no doubt this will effect the quality of future coaches who might consider taking a position at Tam High. We demand full disclosure on the rationale for the abrupt firing of Coach Osder.
This politically charged witch hunt is detrimental to our kids and their -- yes their not their parents -- baseball program. Plus I fear it is doing irreparable damage to Tam High's image at large. It is a sad commentary that a handful of coddling, helicopter parents can damage a program and man's reputation so easily.
I WANT a coach who sets expectations. I WANT a coach who makes it hard to qualify so that my son has to perform to be considered. I WANT a coach who puts my kid in "outside the box" situations so he can grow to be a better ball player, a better teammate, a better man, a better future leader. Scott Osder and his coaching team have done this. It's not just about baseball with these guys. They truly care about the kids, and treat and coach them as young adults trying to navigate growing up in a competitive world! Terminating this coaching team would be a HUGE and selfish mistake!
As a proud Tam baseball alum, it is my firm belief that Coach Osder is the most dedicated and committed instructor the program has had in years, even decades. Tam kids are richer for the experience of playing in his program, and isn't enrichment of kids' lives the goal of a Tam High education and athletic experience? Please, everyone, let's come to our senses. Thanks for your consideration..
Entire process was mismanaged from the start. Nobody ever asked the kids what they want/need with their baseball program. Shameful.

My son has taken private lessons from Coach Osder and has also attended his camps. I'm impressed with the way Coach not only teaches in a positive way, but also challenges my son to reach beyond what he *thought* were the limits of his abilities. The way this entire thing has gone down is disgraceful. What could have been and should have been an incredible "teaching moment" has turned into the worst kind of lesson. The kids will lose as a result of this decision. And not only the student athletes, but perhaps mostly the ones whose parents are leading this unfortunate and shameful effort to remove Coach Osder. They're being taught the worst lesson of all. Good for the players to stand up for their coach.
