Tam High Baseball Coach Update and Call to Action

Entire process was mismanaged from the start. Nobody ever asked the kids what they want/need with their baseball program. Shameful.

Scott is a great coach and he is highly valued by most all students and parents. The actions against him by the administration are wrong. Further, the administration is sending a terrible message to our students and community by removing Scott without proper diligence. Our students and community want Scott back as our coach and this wrong must be corrected as soon as possible.

Outrageous that this happened. This man has done nothing but develop quality players and men in his time at Tamalpais High School.

I grew up in Mill Valley and my parents still live there. I currently coach in Southern California, but would never coach at Tam. Over the past 20 years I've seen Tam High School dismantle its baseball program every few years by firing coaches. In my time in high school in the late 90's there were 3 head Varsity coaches in 4 years. Whatever the reason this time, Tam HS has a history of allowing the parents to run coaches out of town before they have a chance to build a program. Whether the program succeeds or fails, the merits of a coach should be what kind of young men he is helping to raise. To that end, the parents in the community, the coaching staff, and the high school administration should work together for the benefit of the student athlete. Just as players need to be supported by their coaches, coaches need support by administration and work out issues openly with parents before things get so bad. I would support Scott Osder's reinstatement as the Tam Baseball Head Coach, however if I were him I wouldn't take the job back.

My son has taken private lessons from Coach Osder and has also attended his camps. I'm impressed with the way Coach not only teaches in a positive way, but also challenges my son to reach beyond what he *thought* were the limits of his abilities. The way this entire thing has gone down is disgraceful. What could have been and should have been an incredible "teaching moment" has turned into the worst kind of lesson. The kids will lose as a result of this decision. And not only the student athletes, but perhaps mostly the ones whose parents are leading this unfortunate and shameful effort to remove Coach Osder. They're being taught the worst lesson of all. Good for the players to stand up for their coach.

I am the parent of two 8th grade boys who have been dedicated to baseball since kindergarten. They were Mill Valley Little Leaguers and All Stars and are currently playing with Bombers Baseball Cub. My boys have participated in many clinics offered by Scott Osder which were excellent. We were also pleased with the high quality program Coach Osder has been building at Tam. This disruption is unacceptable to the future careers of the players already at Tam and the uncertainty is harming 8th graders who must now decide where they will go to high school. The young baseball players of Mill Valley deserve much better than this. We hope the school district will reinstate Coach Osder and bring much needed stability to the baseball program.

My husband, myself and my two sons wholeheartedly support Scott Osder. My eldest son played for 4 years for Tam, had a terrific experience with Scott as his coach, and has gone on to play baseball for Claremont McKenna College, a top ten liberal arts college, through Scott's support. My youngest son had his best baseball year ever as a freshman at Tam, after years of not very good Little League experiences, in part because of Scott's strategy to advance stronger players to their appropriate competitive level, which allows other players a chance to develop and be on the field.

Coach Osder not only provides a stable disciplined environment but has College connections for those players interested in playing beyond High School.

Coach Osder should be reinstated. He runs a fine merit-based program.

"Everybody wins" / "Everybody plays" may be a fine policy for younger children (or not...) But it is not an appropriate policy for high school. It is nice to let kids be parts of the team, but parents should not determine who plays and for how long. (I have nothing to do with baseball, and I do not know all the details of this particular case... but I am concerned that vocal parents may have persuaded our school to make a bad decision.

Scott Osder is a first rate coach who has poured his heart and soul into our baseball program. He cares about the program and our kids.

Coach Osder was a terrific coach for my son.

Coach Scott is an outstanding coach. Through role modeling and direct instruction, He imparts onto the his players how to become an exceptional athlete while maintaining integrity, respect, humility, and dignity. Tam High is fortunate to have a coach of such high caliber. The lack of transparency, abruptness, and manner in which they have chosen to release Coach from his position runs against all that Coach has taught his players... it shows poor integrity, arrogance, disrespect, and injustice. As others have mentioned, no doubt this will effect the quality of future coaches who might consider taking a position at Tam High. We demand full disclosure on the rationale for the abrupt firing of Coach Osder.
