Take Rivi Back: Replacement of General Manager

Ed IS the Rivi. I am saddened that one person could ruin everything for everyone! Should the current situation remain unchanged, we will all need to go to another establishment and take Ed, Terry, Theresa...you get it.

Ok. I grew up at Rivi. My parents started taking me and my sister there in the early '60's. My father and his family were members in the 40's and 50's. I was a lifeguard there while in college. Needless to say I've seen the club ebb and flow through a variety of issues, from infrastructure to management, to membership decisions that impacted the entire city. This current issue of management, which in itself is critical, has reached its zenith with the firing of Ed. No substantiated facts that would really merit his termination, have been made official to this point in time. There is no logical reason, from either a philosophical or business perspective to have made that decision. The action, along with others, speak only to the fact that the current GM is no longer in touch with the pulse of membership or the overall goals and direction needed to sustain Rivi's future growth. I own a very successful business. I know what it's like to sit in the lonely chair and make decisions. Not all are popular, but they are made with concern for people, goals and what is best for growth and sustainability. My concern is with the GM staying on and I must say, I'm also concerned with the feckless response and direction of the current board. Its structure and makeup should also be called into question. Immediately. Finally, I must say that my wife and I know Ed. he's a great guy and house sits for us when we're out of town. I've already told him that we will do everything in our power and influence to see that he retains his position at Rivi and also receives counsel, where appropriate, to recover his good name against those, including the GM and members of the board, that would recklessly and without cause, use him as a means to deflect blame from where it truly belongs.

And this is the end state of your witch hunt. Congratulations angry mob, you do what angry mobs do best.

Whoa...I am not a fan of Bryan but that is a pretty serious allegation...can you support this claim?

We have been members of the Rivi since the 90's . My husband has always said that our Rivi membership would be the last thing we would ever give up! He grew up at Rivi also . Ed is the totally responsible for teaching my 4 children to swim! They have all done water wizards and 3 of the 4 have done swim team. Ed and all of the Aquatics staff are second to none and deserve to be treated as such!!! Without Ed I fear for Rivi's future! Please listen to the members and bring Ed back!!!

I am disappointed lack of effort the current GM has placed in structure improvements and member concerns. I still do not understand why the GM fired Ed.

Save the Rivi!

How can past members, those who dropped their membership due to this problem, be contacted. Does anyone have access to "past members"? I would be more than happy to help notify/contact members we lost because of the lack of consideration of what we the "members/owners" .wanted/needed or thought. The Board has not cared about the members for way too long.

It is about time we took OUR club back..a 65 year member

I joined Rivi in 1974... My children (3) grew up loving every summer there....Now their children are doing the same... My in-laws were members from the day door opened so Rivi is a family tradition for us.. Several members , my husband and myself encountered a problem with the " Over 21 " section being moved. We tried to work Bryan but felt he wasn't interested in our concerns..... We are very sad to hear Ed was terminated, although we don't know the exact reason ... as the explanation was vague, we feel he should be reinstated...

There are many, many details to this situation that have not been posted or made known to the general membership. That in itself is a big problem. But the problem being discussed here is losing Ed. Admitting that all the facts are not known, this is known. Ed is a normal human with all the normal traits of "humanness", prone to having good days and having bad days. Doing things right and making mistakes.. However, in a couple of areas he is very different than the average person. One area is his "do whatever it takes" attitude. He is a worker. A do whatever it takes worker. That sets him apart from most. There are those that talk, those that lend a hand and then there are those like Ed who give everything inside of themselves to get things done. There are very few individuals who have that quality. Another area is his "gift" with kids. There are few individuals who can grab the mind, heart and spirit of kids like Ed. His "gift" also extends with most of the adults. It would be true to say that he is a "Pied Piper". Sure not everyone is going to like Ed. He has a polarizing personality. But if a survey was taken among the membership, his "likes" would be overwhelming. Ed is a unique person and it is quit hard to understand how you would let a person like him "go away". Workers like him are rare. Something does not seem right here.

I, too, am signing in support of Ed Ahlbrand. His presence is an essential part of Rivi's future.

I am signing this in support of Ed Ahlbrand. He has been an amazing coach for both my boys. I, personally, do not know any of the allegations against Bryan Avery.

I am a former member that quit the club when children moved away but still care very much about the club's future!

It saddened me to think Ed would not be there but I honestly do not believe that I know enough details to have any opinion about Bryan as the GM. When I did have a problem at the Rivi he handled it very professionally. I am sorry that I signed the petition. I didn't read before I signed.

How is the petition being circulated? Is it posted on Rivi Facebook page?
