Keep it the Braves, instead of joining the fad of erasing Native American memory, history, and culture from our nation. Many Native peoples are not offended, so we shouldn’t be offended for them.

As a graduate of Taconic I think it's rediculous that you want to change the name. The Braves are the warriors of the tribe. Naming the mascot "The Braves" is not disrespectful to the Taconic Native Americans it is honoring them.

I read the article in iberkshires.com, a teacher was quoted as saying she "pleaded to have the racist mascot removed as she THINKS it may cause THOUGHTS that would reinforce stereotypes. Dangerous precedent to act on an individuals fear of what others may or may not THINK. Especially someone in a role to teach. Any teacher should remain unbiased. Soon there will be no need for History class as we will have no history to teach. Class of 1978

I am so angered by this my initial reaction is to put my fist through the wall and sit down and have a good cry. These changes, being made unilaterally, are spineless, knee-jerk, and completely misguided. While I understand many mascot names and images, as well as chants and mannerisms, may be viewed as stereotypical, it is nonsense to deem them all as derogatory. They are monikers and symbols of strength, skill, and pride.
