I have known Sylvia for 17 years, more than a mentor she is family. My son attended UOP and is now in kindergarten, he is thriving in school because of the loving and creative environment he was shown at UOP, I am very thankful for that. If you are ever having a bad day come join Sylvia at circle time, you will leave with a smile on your face.

My formal proposal is in the mail. But I just wan to say that Sylvia is not just a Director of a childcare. Sylvia is family. Many first time parents are lost. They ned guidance. And inspiration. And in walks Sylvia. The most creative, inventive loving person. You MUST trust and LOVE who you leave your children with. with out a doubt my children are better people because of Sylvia. My children are thriving, and I thank her. When I saw her 9 years ago laughing and playing music, and I said, my son must go there, we never looked back. The greatest decision ever.

Sylvia Stowell holds all the positive attributes that promote a joyful, healthy, pre-school experience. Her dedication and commitment far exceeds the standard; she gives her personal attention in all circumstances that affect a child’s welfare, and similarly, is deeply committed to a positive parent experience. Preschool encourages early development of communication skills and self esteem. Preschool is likely the first socializing experience a child will encounter, and for both the child and parent(s), questions, concerns, fears –may appear. Sylvia works hard to promote meaningful child-teacher, and purposeful parent-educator interaction through understanding and empathy. She has the quality of understanding what another person is experiencing from within the other person’s frame of reference. She is attentive to how the child presents –clean, rested, nourished, secure… and works as sincerely with those observations as she does on early childhood learning and social mixing. She listens to the children, to their parents, and to her staff, to get a broad understanding of challenges and opportunities consequential in her community. She is knowledgeable, intuitive and approachable. She's strong and has a appropriate sense of limits. Sylvia enjoys her work immensely. Those she works with are as delighted to have her as she is to be with them. I fully support the nomination and Sylvia Stowell's recognition of Early Childhood Educator Director of the year.

I have a 3 year old currently enrolled into UOP with Sylvia. I was very anxious to leave my son after being a stay at home mom for 2 years. I was referred to Sylvia by a mutual friend who said UOP was an amazing place with amazing staff. To know Sylvia is to love Sylvia. She is the most warm heated people I have ever met. My son along with many children I have met their respond to her in a way that is so priceless and touching. She makes you as a parent feel welcomed no matter what your like or where your from. She is an amazing teacher and I am so luck to have my son in her school and having her in our lives in the future. Sylvia you are truly amazing and my family and I thank you.

When my daughter (who has a disability and significant medical issues) was attending Marindale, I desperately wanted her to spend time with typical children in a loving environment so that she could have an opportunity to hang with typical kids, make some friends, and mimic their behaviors. Sylvia and her wonderful school came so highly recommended. We enrolled our daughter and it was one of the best experiences we had. The children were accepting, the environment was loving, and Sylvia and her staff were kind, loving and accepting of our daughter which was a rare find for us in Marin County. We are forever grateful for the good times we had with Sylvia, staff and kids, and for the wonderful encounters and learning experiences for our daughter. Thank you Sylvia, daughters and staff! Love, Bobbie, Bruce & Christina

Sylvia is absolutely the best. Her dedication to each child, her school, the staff and the parents is unparalled. One need only pop in on her school to understand the special environment she has created. She should, without a doubt, be selected as the ECE Director of the Year.

University of Play made all the difference in the world to Simon. He grew so much under Sylvia's care. Now at nine, 4 years after he left, he still talks about her and the center as one of the best places in the world.

Sylvia and her staff offer an incredible environment for the kids. My daughter loved going there and you can tell that Sylvia and the staff genuinely love their job. I can't say enough good things about Sylvia and UOP. She is simply the BEST!

Sylvia and the staff at UOP are the very best! We are very excited that Sylvia was nominated for this award. She totally deserves it! She can find a way with any child and will make sure no one is left out. Our son came to UOP with no English, and she loved the school from day one. Sylvia managed to create a wonderful loving atmosphere where kids thrive!
