Switch WIU to Online Classes for 2 Weeks Following Spring Break

I'm a commuter. So, I'm more afraid of the possibility of bringing it home to my sister who has Type 1 diabetes. I could care less if I get sick but I don't want to have to go to school and have the possibility of infecting her.

As of March 12, at 9 am, at least 7 different Illinois universities and colleges have had extended spring breaks and have moved to online class for the rest of the semester or at least 2 weeks. It is ridiculous that western is taking this long to release any kind of statement with any substance to it. Most of us are planning on going back Sunday, March 15th. I would rather not be on a train with 100+ other people including those who live in the area with the most cases. If corona is brought to Macomb all of us are screwed because of the lack of resources and low quality medical services(BEU).

Entire COUNTRIES have shut down all schools with less cases than we have in the United States. And the fact we have to start a petition to have online classes for a few weeks is ridiculous. DO SOMETHING

University Administration - Why such a slow response to initiate a two week online course program following spring break? Each day, we're hearing that other Illinois universities, both public and private, have extended "break" out of an abundance of caution. The majority of students will be returning on Sunday from areas that have seen a rise in Covid-19 cases - please make a decision that is in the best interest of your students, staff and faculty. If you think the university is somehow protected because of it location, your wrong - one confirmed case will spread quickly and Macomb will have a difficult time handling an outbreak.

Can y’all hurry and sign plz.

If this needed to be cautious, and prevent outbreaks then I feel that we should much rather be safe than sorry.

Let them chill at home.

Close this funky ass school down and give it a good ass cleanse. It’s bad enough we have kids in and out the beau getting treated for chlamydia. These kids don’t know how tf to practice good hygiene so what makes you think they’ll do something as simple as washing their hands? I mean a lot of them can barely wash their ass!!!

If WIU refuses to close the campus, I believe the elderly, especially the ones in memorial hall, should be relocated to a safer location, away from all the potentially contaminated students.

I’m concerned about the protective measures that’ll be in place to prevent the spread of the virus. Will the dorm residence halls cover food, like the salad bar, in order to prevent airborne contact of the virus? Will the rec be wiping down all the equipment? if I start feeling symptoms, do I just walk into the BEAU? what if a student is sick and refuses to miss class because of their professors absence policy????!!!!

I am very concerned about the house crawl event scheduled for next Saturday in Macomb. From my experience they make jungle juice in a large open storage container and serve cups of juice by reaching their hand into the juice and pouring it into other cups to serve... this puts a lot of us at risk for the spread of the virus. Many students are traveling for spring break and risk bringing it back to our campus...

Raven, a member of the Tri Sigma sorority is currently out of the country in Europe. She may not be able to return due to Trump’s travel ban, effective Friday at midnight... if she does return before then, she risks bringing the virus with her. I am very concerned that someone will bring it to our campus. Due to its small size I am sure it will spread very quickly!!!
